colin
http://psychcentral.com/lib/2010/top-25-psychiatric-prescriptions-for-2009/ I was surprised Xanax topped the list by far. I thought it was generally avoided. Ativan was 3rd and also to my surprise klonazepam did not even make the list-I had thought it wasa the drug of choice amongst the benzo class.... StormBeforeCalm
Thanks for posting--interesting reading. Based on my own experiences, I assume that Xanax ranks so high because it's so commonly prescribed by general practitioners. My husband, mother, and mother-in-law (who all have different general practitioners) have each been prescribed Xanax by their GPs for anxiety. My sister and I also have anxiety problems, but we see pdocs and they of course do not prescribe us Xanax. Interestingly, my husband recently saw a pdoc for the first time, and he recommended that my husband stop taking the Xanax and put him on Celexa.
