whats the longest has anyone been on an atypical?

Recommended Posts

I've been on Seroquel since September this year. Not a very long time, I know, but seeing as I only started on the medication rollarcoaster about a year ago, it's a fairly substantial amount of time. For me, the Wellbutrin is levelling out the cravings that Seroquel gave me. Then again, even if it wasn't, I wouldn't give the Seroquel up for the world. I firmly believe that it's saved my life.

I've only been on my Seroquel since April this year, but no way am I planning to come off it any time soon (unless it stops working and I have to replace it with something else). Though the short length of time is because I was only diagnosed this year, after 5 years of symptoms.

I am doing so much better on AP than I did with no meds or on AD.

Been on Seroquel 6 months now and I wouldn't trade it for anything, unless I absolutely had to. I'm with hallowdink, I firmly believe the Quel saved my life. I've been on doses as low as 25mg when I was just starting and am now on 400mg. Pdoc discussed possibly raising my dosage when I saw him last week, but right now we're waiting.

The longest I've lasted on an AP was 8 months on ziprasidone. I was very disappointed that it didn't work out in the end. If it wasn't for the random sedation, ziprasidone was perfect. I responded very well to the drug.

I've been switching between Seroquel, Zyprexa and Geodon for almost 10 years. Right now I'm on Zyprexa. The longest I've been on one AAP was 2 years with no break, and it was Zyprexa. Weight gain is a bit of an issue, but I'm in a 'normal' range.

I've been on one atypical or another (at times two) since '99. I don't see my life without it. I am of average weight, but I work for that, to be honest.

Really, the biggest issue now is my cholestorol, which is catching up with me, but I don't see life without an atypical in my future. Maybe a REDUCTION of the seroquel, which has been my mainstay for most of my treatment is the best I can hope for. We'll see.

Sigh. It's hard, but the good news is, no movement disorders for me, other than my brief stint on abilify (akathesia from hell, not to mention other Bad Things).

I was on Geodon that worked for me for a year and a half. I can no longer tolerate Geodon. Xyprexa & Seroqel caused too much weight gain and diabetes type II. Won a lawsuit on the Seroqel issue. I have just been transitioned over to Saphris. I will post after a few days. Good luck to everyone out there in the Internet ether struggling with mood disorders.

Just in response to the youtube video that was posted in this thread - don't believe a word of it. It is just typical propaganda probably coming from scientologists.

I was on Seroquel for 6 years and it really helped me a lot. Smart docs who put me on Seroquel in the hospital got me settled down and out of there so I'm extremely grateful for it. But, I had to leave it for the side effects. Weight gain is terrible over time and I had a pdoc tell me I was on the way to diabetes. I just got put on Latuda and that seems to work pretty well. Given my flavor of Bipolar I (fighting off a lot of mania), I think I bought AAPs for life. The older APs help but I need the newer generation to really solve the puzzle. I also take Lithium for mood and Sonata for sleep. Latuda has a little sleeping effect but you need something else with it. Seroquel was enough for sleep when I took it as my main AAP, but sometimes it was too much of the sleeping effect.
