Cattitude
My insomnia has come back recently, and my pdoc told me to double my dose of Seroquel (100->200). I reminded him that in the past when I was at 200 or more I had akathisia. He said this isn't a normal side effect of Seroquel, but, I had it when I was taking Seroquel alone. The pdoc asked me to call him if I get akathisia again, then he'll put me on Abilify instead. Has anyone else experienced akathisia with Seroquel? If yes, at what dose? Blart752
i experienced akathisia at doses like 25-50mg. I was also taking a antidepressant at the same time. But even while off of an antidepressant i still experienced the akathisia. Are u also taking invega as well?
bpladybug
he says the akathisia is not a normal side effect or Seroquel? could have fooled me I had it pretty bad between 300 - 400 mgs, but now that I am at 400 consistently it is not a problem xanax helps, and getting to sleep before it kicks in I also tried a liquid calcium magnesium my doctor gave me a bottle - it tasted yucky but it seemed to help
Velvet Elvis
It shouldn't be possible at lower doses because there is no effect on Dopamine until it's higher. It's basically just an antihistamine at low doses. EPS of any kind is rare even at high doses unless you mix it with another AP.

I had akathisia when I took Seroquel both alone and with different AD's. I checked the product monograph for Seroquel and could not find akathisia listed as a side effect. My pdoc described my akathisia as an "idiosyncratic response."
netsavy006
Just a thought, if 200mg gives you akathisia, and 100mg is not enough anymore, is it possible to talk to the doctor about taking a dose in between to see if that will help prevent the problem? I don't experience akathisia, but have had restless legs pretty bad. Your pdoc is thinking of putting you on Abilify instead? Abilify is well known for having akathisia as a side effect. I had it really bad on Abilify. It drove me even more crazy.
Anna
Yes, well, idiosyncratic or not, this side effect can be managed. If the quel is helpful, I question pdoc putting you on a med that is WELL KNOWN for causing akathesia to the point that it's mentioned in the PI sheet. Maybe you might talk to pdoc about a med to help with the movement disorder first, possibly. Just a thought. Anna
notfred
I just wanted to point out you are on a number of meds which have the potential to cause akathisia: Lithium, Seroquel, and Invega. nf
