rowan77
I was on Lamictal for 5 1/2 years, maximum dose 250mg, and never had an issue with elevated blood pressure
Anna
How elevated is it? Seriously so? I don't know much about lamictal and BP but if your pdoc is not taking you seriously, it might be time for a visit to gdoc to discuss options. IF the lamictal is working well, it may be worth trying to manage this side effect, if you can. Your gdoc would really be the person for that, though, given pdoc doesn't seem to believe in it. inmyhead
what is your diagnosis and what other rx's do you take? your pdoc may be taking the position that elevated BP from Lamictal isn't on the top of the list of side effects. he may see them as independent events per the PI sheet. BP is complicated and can be due to many things.
Catnapper
I was taking Atacand for high blood pressure when I started Lamictal over two years ago, and I have not had to increase my blood pressure medicine as a result of Lamictal. Thera are a lot of things that can increase blood pressure, including things you wouldn't think of, like taking Advil. Also, I have 'white coat syndrome' really badly, so I bought a home blood pressure meter with a memory so I could show my GP that my blood pressure is under control. Even if I were getting blood pressure problems from Lamictal, if my mood was good, I would change / add blood pressure meds before I messed with my crazy meds. It's been my experience that it's a lot easier to treat other purely physical ailments, with generally a lot more med choices, and a non-subjective analysis of whether the meds are working or not, than to have to change crazy meds. Also, even a little bit of daily exercise (like a 15 minute walk) or losing 5% of your body weight if you're overweight, will make a big difference in your blood pressure. Thomas
I have high blood pressure problems also and have been on medication (Hyzaar) for it 22 years now. I'm also on 400 mg. Lamictal and my GP just added a second high blood pressure med (Crestor).
crtclms
I have very low blood pressure, and Lamictal has not changed that. While I also have white coat syndrome, my second reading is usually about 95/
muriel
I have high blood pressure problems also and have been on medication (Hyzaar) for it 22 years now. I'm also on 400 mg. Lamictal and my GP just added a second high blood pressure med (Crestor). Crestor is a statin used for lowering cholesterol, not a blood pressure reducing drug. I had no issues with blood pressure on Lamictal and have not personally heard of raised blood pressure being a side effect of that drug.

redundant
While my blood pressure is 140/90 it isnt really all that high, but when it was ranging mid 90's over mid 60s it did concern me. However, since I recently had a meltdown which caused me to be on med leave from work I think all the built crazy might have created my high blood pressure. I thank you all for insight. I am fairly new to actually being diagnosed with something, so please forgive me if I seem to be, oh. whats the word..hyperchrondiac-ish.
susanlynn
Low blood pressure seems to be a family characteristic, and tegretol made the doctors think I was dead. (Nurses, too.) Lamictal seems to have upped my bp.
