kitthekitten128
Did anybody else have this problem when they tapered down Effexor? I am always ravenous. I didn't have this issue till I tapered down on the Effexor, however I did up my Depekote. Not sure which is to blame.
rowan77
I'd say it's the Depakote as it's known to cause increased appetite and weight gain
kitthekitten128
I suspect that too. Damn Depekote.
jt07
Depakote made me ravenous all the time. I took it for only one month because I couldn't handle this side effect. I don't know for sure, but my bet is that it is the Depakote making you hungry.
kitthekitten128
I agree. Going to ask my doctor if I can get rid of it. driving me nuts. gaining weight etc.
Anna
Make sure you have a good med plan in place to replace the depakote... Also, would reducing it and adding something else be an option? It's a good mood stabilizer. That said, you do have many more options to try besides depakote... like lamictal maybe if you haven't? The titration is a bitch at times, but it's great for depressive sx of BP. Not sure what you have tried. But you do have many other options. The increase in appetite is likely NOT from the effexor reduction, in all likelyhood. Anna
kitthekitten128
My Doctor said its Abilify causing the appetite increase. I've been on Abilify for awhile so not sure. I emailed her will see what she says. We are most likely getting rid of the Abilify instead of the Depekote.
jt07
Well, I take Abilify, and it does increase my appetite, but nowhere near as much as the Depakote did. My main mood stabilizer is carbamazepine, and it is ok on the appetite so there are other options out there besides Depakote should you need to look for another mood stabilizer.
