leadinglady
I am on Seroquel once again, now just a low dose of 25 mg, but am wondering if it is going to help my impulsiveness. I make these crazy weird choices and speak before I think sometimes, and need something to take away the thrill of the impulsive choices so I'll stop making them. Is Seroquel a good med for that or would something in the mood stabilizer class be better than an AAP?
dancesintherain
at your low dose I'd lean toward no, but I'm definitely not a doctor. It may chill things out a bit so that it's less likely to come into your head...but higher doses that are more mood-stabilizer like might help more. That and really developing alternative coping strategies.
bpladybug
From my experience I agree that 25 mgs would not be a high enough dose to affect such a change in behavior.
hallowedink
I agree with the others that 25mg is not a very high dose. However, I will say that Seroquel can be quite calming and sedating, so it may well help with things like anxiety and impulsivity. I saw a difference when I got up to about 100mg, but for me the difference was in my mood, not anxiety or impulsivity.
c-
seroquel is the only thing that helps with disrupted sleep. p-doc says i'm like putting down a bear at 400 mg, amongst other things. he wanted to try 600 mg, but that's a very disruptive dose change. 25 mg should be easy to get used to. leadinglady
Oh yeah it's just a starting dose because I'm very sensitive to it. I've been on 100 mg in the morning and 300 mg at bedtime usually. I think that's where pdoc is going with it.. I just can't have that instant 14-hour sleep hit me because I'm a single mom with two little ones, so I have to go up easier. So impulsivity and mood stability go hand in hand? I.e., that's what the pdoc is trying to accomplish is stabilizing my mood in hopes of taking away the impulsivity? Hmm... makes a little sense. dancesintherain
I'm not 100% on top of this area...but I think of impulsivity as tracking two areas...one can be mood instability land and another can be ADHD land. Given your symptoms, mood instability land seems much more likely and therefore the reason for the change. That said...there very well could be other contexts in which it comes up. But those are the two main ones I know off the top of my head.
