Pamito
Hi all, My pdoc wants me to start 5mg Saphris with my 700 Seroquel. As a combo. But I am really scared. I'd like to know what happens when you take the med. Do you feel really drugged after 15 minutes? 30 minutes? Do you want to eat really badly after 30 minutes? I'd like to prepare myself for taking it. I'd love to know some user experiences with the actual effects of taking the med. I often get akathisia, but is Saphris unlikely to cause this? Any user practical experiences will help me take the plunge and try it. At this point I am too scared to try. Thanks!

Anna
When I took saphris I was not sedated at all. It didn't make me even remotely sleepy. That said, few things do. It was a bit too activating for me, but then a lot of AAPs are for me. It was kind of subtle, but not workable over the long haul. I did not gain a lot of weight on it. You get used to the evil dissolve taste over time. It's one that many people find works well for them. Give it a shot. Though it's typically prescribed twice a day if you get insane sedation from it some pdocs will go for once a day dosing. Anna
Cetkat
I took mine once a day at night. At first I found it activating for a couple of days, but that was just a start-up effect that wore off. Then I could actually feel the sedation. It's somewhere in-between the 15-30min mark and I found that I really did need to get at least two hours of actual sleep or I would be groggy the entire day. If I slept and woke up - I was fine. No akathisia at all for me.. and I got that horribly on Abilify the first time I took it (the next I titrated insanely slowly). It lasted as a pretty good sleep med for me.. stayed at pretty much the same manageable level the whole time I took it. Can't remember how many months - at least 4. humanoid
I agree with what Sylvan said, very close to my experience. I took 10mg of Saphris, 5mg in the morning, 5mg at night. Aside from the horrible taste, it left me horribly drowsy and fatigued all day. I had a pretty constant headache of some sort, and I also had constant brain zaps and little jolts. I also did not last long on this med, I couldn't handle work while taking it and I needed to work, so with pdoc's approval, I stopped taking it. I don't recall it making me any hungrier than usual, if that helps at all.
Celeste
I take Saphris 10mg a day for my bipolar disorder. It knocks me out. I'm asleep in like no time. And I stay asleep all night. I'm out 10 hrs probably. Feel a lil groggy in the morning but that's the only problem I've had with it. It's been great for my manic episodes. I was scared taking it for the first time but for me it's been a godsend. But every person's case is different. All I can say is that, for me, it's great. gl :-)
Pamito
Thanks guys for the replies so far. I didn't realize it was so sedating. I am still unsure if I will add it to my combo, as at the moment, things are pretty ok, not too hungry, not too tired. My seroquel doesn't make me hungry so I am a bit reticent to add 5mg of Saphris to the mix. Any more input appreciated! Thanks.
