Sigh_
Does anyone really know why doctors think that Remeron withdrawal is a "rare occurrence" when, if you do a quick Google search for Remeron withdrawal, you will plainly see that there are quite a few people all experiencing the same withdrawal symptoms of it. I've been on it for 11 years now, and want to get off it but at this time I'm tapering off Klonopin and that is what I would imagine to be worse than any hell described in the Bible. Also, as noted in some of pmy past discussions I'm stuck on the SolTabs and unsure how I can cut those (tried switching to regular pills and got sick from it). Maybe mixing the soltab in water? would that even be stable? Anyway- please discuss this "Withdrawal from Remeron is rare" with me...Cause I see evidence of the otherwise being true. Curious as to what I am in for when I do decide to taper the Remeron, will it be a cake walk like docs say, or will it be worse than benzo withdrawal? And why do doctors ignore people who do have withdrawals of it?
tryp
Well, for one thing, there are so many people on the internet that even if a whole ton of people post about it online, for a given psychiatrist, they might see only one or two people who have had a significant problem. There's also a bias based on who actually posts online - people who haven't had a problem don't tend to run off to the internet the same way that people who have a bad reaction do. You'll notice that here on CB as well - we tend towards the treatment resistant, multi-med crowd because those are the people who are frustrated enough to wind up here. Velvet Elvis
I don't recall having any problems coming off it. It should be nothing like benzo withdrawal because it's not physically addictive.
hallowedink
I agree with tryp. I'd also like to add - I went of 45mg of Remeron cold-turkey (following my doctor's orders) and had no withdrawal effects except insomnia. But as you will see, insomnia is actually one of my diagnoses. I don't know for a hundred percent that it was the Remeron that caused it, or if it was the Prozac that I went on straight after that caused it, or even if it was unrelated. At any rate, my sleeping went back to "normal" (for me) pretty quickly. However, that's not to say that it will be like that for you. Everyone reacts to meds differently, and I was only on it for four months, not 11 years. It shouldn't be anything like benzo withdrawal, because like VE says it isn't physically addictive. notfred
I did not have problems coming off it or Effexor. Most peoples experiences with psycomeds are nothing like what is posted on the Internet. The Internet selects for the worst cases. nf
