Oranjeboom55
My doctor agreed that i switch and gave me the meds, but forgot to mention how to do it. Ive read anywhere from 4-12 weeks for the abilify to start working. Im switching from ziprasidone. Id like to know others experience on switching from usual APs to abilify. Anna
Why don't you call and ask your doctor how he/she wants you to do it? Switching from geodon to abilify can be kind of complicated. You might need some kind of taper schedule, I don't know. Anna
localcolors
I'm wondering about abilify. I've taken geodon for two years; but my doctor is going to change it. Why do you think it takes 12 weeks for it to work?
Phoenix_Rising
Like Anna suggested, call your pdoc to determine how to start Abilify as its typical to start at a small dose and work your way up. As for length of time until you feel effects, I think its different for everyone. I could feel the difference almost immediately but YMMV.
chimpmaster
Unlike SSRIs, AAPs tend to work pretty quickly. Also, whilst you can cross taper, in a lot of cases there is no need. I have been on several different AAPs and in all cases I was advised to stop taking the med on day 1, and start the new med on day 2. If you are unsure what to do, call your dr and ask for instructions.
lysergia
yes, call and ask for clarification for sure. abilify was already miraculous for me at day three. i've only been on it three weeks and my life has changed dramatically. so you may not have to wait for as long as you think to feel some benefit.
