Benzoman
Hello! I was just wondering how fast tollerance to benzos go up. I'm prescribed 2mg clonazepam 3 times daily, and 3mg lorazepam a day taken as needed. Yesterday I took the 3 mg of lorazepam after having not taken any for a long long time. If I just stick to my clonazepam 2mg 3 times daily from here on in and not take any more lorazepam, will i go through withdrawals or will I be fine? Is one day of a large benzo increase enough to raise your tollerance or does it have to be longer? I need the answer as quick as you can give it. Thank you so much. notfred
One day's increase does not make a difference to me. I have never become tolerant to benzos in any significant way. Think weeks and months not days in terms of tolerance. nf

netsavy006
That could be significant since it was such a large dose over a short period of time. The best I can counsel is to contact your prescribing doctor for advice.
muriel
The best way to give yourself a really bad problem with benzo abuse and addiction is to do exactly what you're doing. You're on a very high dose of benzos. I am frankly surprised one doctor would prescribe that much lorazepam along with that much klonopin.
Benzoman
You really shouldn't do that. The doctor told you how to take the meds and that's what you should do. One day of a high dose should not make you go through withdrawal but don't do it again without the doctor's approval. You really think i won't go through withdrawals if i go back to my normal dose? I promise guys i won't do it again. also i can't contact my doctor or he'll take my benzos away.
muriel
Why will he take them away? And really, if you need to go through withdrawal, then you'll go through withdrawal. It's not going to kill you. Deal with it. Sucks to have to do, but one day of a high dose isn't going to put you in withdrawal so severe that you'll endanger your health. You may just not be very comfortable.
Anna
I really doubt one day will put you into w/d. Was there a reason you did this? And a reason your benzo doses are so high? And yeah, don't do it again. Anna

When i say withdrawals i'm thinking of seizure, coma, and death. Will i experience that if i just go back to my 2mg clonazepam 3 times a day? muriel
You need to talk to your doctor about how you're abusing your medication. Even if it means you get your benzos taken away.

Anna
Benzo, I highly doubt you will experience coma, seizures and death. If you are that worried about it, you can call poison control and ask them. But really, I kinda agree with Muriel. You need to talk to pdoc about what you did and also maybe look at decreasing your benzos some, you are on a ridiculous amount. Are you in therapy? Self mgt skills might allow you to decrease your benzo use AND stop you from abusing your medication. Anna
WinterRosie
What I did when I was worried about withdrawl was had myself locked into a basement with a baby monitor and either a friend or their parents/siblings on the other side of the baby monitor. That way they could hear if I got too actually sick (or if the noise of my moving around the basement stopped) and they could call accordingly. If you're really scared of withdrawing, I'd say find a buddy to supervise you while you taper down. I also think that getting 2/3 of your benzos taken away might not be a bad thing since having them around is making you fearful that you'll die.
