GonnaLaugh Posted November 30, 2011 Share Posted November 30, 2011 Hi, just wondering if anybody has maybe a chronic pain or rheumatic condition, and you are depressed, so you started taking an antidepressant. Did it work for pain, stiffness and swelling? Jus' wondering. I am going to the rheumatologist for a follow-up visit in a few weeks and i was wondering if maybe I could kill two shitty birds with one stone if I got on an AD. The NSAID I take right now that helps me with pain and stiffness is great, but if I take the maximum dose when I am really hurting, it gives me a headache. I also take methotrexate and norvasc and folic acid. Really don't want to kill my liver and kidneys with too much drugs or raise my blood pressure. Feeling anxious and having dark thoughts can be sucky, but my physical problems are worse Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Indigo 'n dye Posted November 30, 2011 Share Posted November 30, 2011 While doing little for swelling and morning stiffness, I have been taking Cymbalta for a few months now and it does help with joint pain and low back pain as well as keeping the black curtain of depression from blocking all the light. I too take MTX/Folic Acid along with Enbrel, Plaquenil, Cellcept and have an arsenal of pain meds. I am currently on 60mg/day of Prednisone. Speak with your rheumatologist and your Pdoc. Good luck! Have been on a slew of different medications to help with pain and depression. On cymbalta now; however, I don't really feel a big difference. I think the pain is too intense to make the medication effective. Either that, or my system really adapts super-fast to the AD's. I feel your pain, seriously. Yeah, not sure how cymbalta or anything like that would really work for me, since it's the actual inflammation that makes me hurt, but it's worth a shot, maybe. I think it helped with pain too. It's been a long time ago that I took it. I hope you start feeling better soon. Depression sucks and pain makes it worse to deal with. GonnaLaugh Posted December 28, 2011 Author Share Posted December 28, 2011 I did read about elavil, I think. It might be a drug I took like 20 some years ago, I don't remember what i took. I didn't have chronic pain or anything like that back then, just very depressed.
