breezy
I had a dream that I was mixing red wine and sierra mist in a green cup. It was a very vivid dream. When I woke up about 15 minutes ago to feed my cat, I noticed that there is a wine bottle in my room and in the kitchen, there is the green cup from my "dream" and two cans of sierra mist in the recycling bin. Did I get myself drunk while sleepwalking? I'm waiting for my roommate to wake up so I can ask her what happened, because I remember going to bed! This is why I didn't want the Ambien, let alone a higher dosage!
hallowedink
That is majorly weird. I'd ask your friend if she knows what happened. Don't start freaking out.
Thomas
My Father-in-law woke up hitting his wife while he was on ambiem. First thing the next morning, he got a different sleep med. No more problems.
breezy
Sorted most things out with my roommate. I downed almost a whole bottle of red wine. I'm a little upset because she recognized something was wrong but didn't do anything. I was saying depressing things, but apparently I wasn't suicidal. I called my pdoc's nurse. We're stopping the Ambien. No shit.

hallowedink
Wow, that's awful. I can't believe your friend didn't stop you, even if just because you drank a lot! I definitely think the ambien is not a good idea after that!

notfred
It is called sleep eating, or in your case sleep drinking. nf She even said I didn't look I was awake. Sleep walking happens in the deepest sleep, stage 3. Thats why you tend not to remember it and are unresponsive to others. nf
breezy
My pdoc was going to keep me on it! I just got off the phone with his nurse. I think he misunderstood and thought I was drinking consciously while on the Ambien! But it's back to trazodone.
hallowedink
What dose were you taking before? Did anything like this happen on the lower dose? I think you need to make it clear to your Pdoc so he can offer you other alternatives.
rowan77
Some people who take zolpidem (Ambien) have been observed walking, eating, talking on the phone and even driving while not fully awake. Many often don't remember doing any of these activities the next morning.

I think you need to make it clear to your Pdoc so he can offer you other alternatives. I was taking 5mg almost exactly a year ago. I shoveled my driveway in the middle of winter, 15 inches of snow, 1/4 mile-long driveway, in my pajamas without a coat. This 20mg made me a wino. And he was going to keep me on it! He didn't sound concerned. i'm so lucky I didn't drive!
Cattitude
I'm on zopiclone, which can cause similar symptoms. Lucky we don't keep wine in the house since I'm an alcoholic! The only things my SO has noticed me doing while asleep are yelling, talking and wandering in and out of the bathroom. I can't get at his car at night so there goes that idea. ps Do you wake up tired when you've done things in your sleep? I do.
SoFla
i've done some strange things while on ambien aswell. Fortunately nothing dangerous, these occurrences seem to be more prevalent the higher the dose.

Fortunately nothing dangerous, these occurrences seem to be more prevalent the higher the dose. On the 5mg, I almost gave myself hypothermia shoveling my driveway in the dead of winter (I live in Wisconsin, brr!!) at midnight, but I was vaguely aware of myself and it didn't feel so "dream like," whereas last night on 20mg could have easily been a dream and I wouldn't know the different without the physical evidence and my roommate as a witness. Cetkat
Yes, definitely stay off of it. It's not worth the risk. It was the only sleep med that worked for me and didn't poop-out. Then I sleep-drove on it, totaled my car, and got a DUI. I will never take it again. Some people can... but I think once something even remotely sleep-walking involved happens, it's time to kick it to the curb.
hallowedink
Potentially, you could ask to try zopiclone or zaleplon instead, as they're both also z-drugs. It may be worth asking your Pdoc. Zopiclone has a much longer half-life, so far as I'm aware, whereas Zaleplon has a quite short half-life, but if you're just looking for something to put you to sleep then either might work. I haven't tried Zaleplon (I was meant to, but for some reason pharmacies in my area aren't getting it in again until January), but I use Zopiclone at the moment, and 7.5mg puts me to sleep without any ill effects (except a bad taste in my mouth the next morning). So far as I know I haven't done anything except sleep on it (or not sleep, as it were). Obviously, I don't know if that's how it will be for you, but it's worth asking about, if you're looking for another option.
y58
I usually wake up tired I had that and my pdoc referred me to a neurologist who ordered a sleep study and I was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea. I wear a cpap and sleep much better now. Talk to your pdoc about how you are usually waking up tired.
