spaceman
What causes the weight gain from serequel? Is it the increase in appetite? Does it change your metabolism. What causes the increase in cholesterol/lipids? Does the increase in appetite occur at low doses such as 300mg or is it more prevalent at higher doses? Answers will be greatly appreciated. netsavy006
I think it's a combination of increase in appetite and changes in metabolism that affects weight. I'm not sure what causes the increase in cholesterol or lipids.
Anna
AAPs have two mechanisms of action.... they can change your metabolism and they can also make you hungry. As far as I know, it may be changes in glucose metabolism that both cause the increase in appetite, and ensure that whatever you eat will be more likely to make you gain. I believe that is why metformin is helpful in some AAP weight gain. I'm not sure what causes the cholesterol changes, to be honest. I had appetite changes and weight increase on 300 m.g. of seroquel, and I don't notice any real changes with dose changes. Another way to ensure that you don't gain too much is to watch your diet carefully..... I was able to lose 45 lbs on Seroquel and depakote by reducing my carbohydrate intake. As well as exercise. This did not improve my chol. levels, however. Anna
