mood stabilizer to an anti-psychotic

Recommended Posts

I agree with Sylvan, the Lithium does do different things for me than Seroquel.

And I like both results a lot.

Did a doctor suggest that? or maybe an advertisement? I worry sometimes

about tv and magazine ads and their influence.

I would be afraid of a major destabilization if I dropped my mood stabilizer.

That could really devastate my life.

Apparently, some antipsychotics have some sort of mood stabilising property, although whether they are as good as a mood stabiliser is something I can't comment on - I'm not great when it comes to how medication works.

At the moment, my pdoc is interested in using clozapine [an AAP] as monotherapy for me, because he said that clozapine has some mood stabilisation properties. I've just started on clozapine so I can't say whether or not it's good, plus I'm only on a low dose.

I think whether eschewing a mood stabiliser for an AAP depends on your symptoms, i.e. if psychosis is more prevalent than mood, etc.

Thank y'all for your response. I am going against the grain here. I went off lithium mood stabilizer a choice I wisely decided for myself not no doctor. I learned that at the second night a relentless body energy emerged and I couldn't sleep so I took my lithium again after that. Mood differs like you say from thought and I believe lithium is more a mood beneficiary to the body than it is a thought one like invega.
