Sodium Valproate did that for me. It quietened my mind, helped me focus and think more clearly and yeah I could say that it chilled me out and made me feel at peace. Unfortunately i had to go off it because I developed PCOS (polycystic ovaries syndrome)

A great medication for agitation and mania!!

On the other hand I also took Lamictal and it was great for my depression

Rowntree, what's the link between PCOS and sodium valproate?

I found Lithium did it for me. I still get sad, expecting to be relaxed and happy all the time would be unrealistic, it's part of the human experience to have emotions.

Right now im on 50 mg lamictal it makes a big ass difference and i am going to go up to 75 and then 100 if i need to. my brain is going 100 mph in this depressed/anxious. or it was. right now im feeling less sad and less anxious. its starting to kick in.

There is controversy as to whether Sodium Valproate definitely causes PCOS but there is a lot of research going on around the topic. Both my pdoc and gynacologist felt that my PCOS was not getting any better whilst still taking valproate and they both felt that it may have at least contributed to me getting it.

I don't understand exactly how it can cause it/worsen it so I'm posting a link that hopefully answers your question!!

Thankfully the "chilled out" feeling remained as I was still on Seroquel and Lithium. To be honest at that time I was on ahuge cocktail of drugs, about 7 or 8, so my pdoc was glad to have a reason to eliminate one. I was in hospital at that time so was being monitored as he reduced and changed my meds around

  • 3 weeks later...

which anticonvulsant has shut your mind up and made you feel at peace or at least midly relaxed/happy/ not sad

Encouraging to see people having success with lamictal. My doc just started me on 25mg hopefully to solve exactly what BouncingMind is talking about.

Racing mind, no peace or relaxation. Agitation. It's not fun anymore....

Tremendous guilt about putting my people thru all this craziness.
