My insurance company is giving me a really hard time about paying for my lamictal. I've been without it since Sunday, today is day 3 without it, tomorrow will be day 4. My pdoc's office is trying to fight with them to pay for it, but of course my insurance company had some "in service day" today and they were unreachable. The nurse called me today and said they would start the fight again come 9am tomorrow morning....

I read online that being without the Lamictal for 3 or 4 days I have to start titration all over again, does anyone know if this is true? I just can't imagine all the hard work over the last month going down the drain and starting from square one. Not to mention, I'll probably end up fighting again next month and going without again.

Any advice??

Yes, you need to re-titrate if off for a while but I don't know how long you have to be off. 3-4 days sounds reasonable, there will not me much Lamictal left in your body at that point. Once you get a prior auth to take this med, which is what you sound like you need, they are good for months to a year.

Thank you.....I will tell my pdoc's office in the morning that I need them to do that for me....

Oddly enough that they didn't think of that last month. I needed the same thing in order to get my Seroquel (it's the IR, so no generic). It's so frustrating! Thanks so much for your reply.

Well, at least you're titrating. It's dangerous to go cold-turkey off of a high lamictal dose as it is an anti-seizure drug too. I'd talk to the doc about taking steps to prevent this from occurring again. Going up slowly lowers the chance of the rash occurring.. I agree that the safe bet would be to re-start.

i'm betting a restart would be best as well. i recently missed only 48 hours because of a pharmacy screwup, and my pdoc (who is probably overly cautious) had me restart (just more quickly than the first time).

Pdoc's office just called.....it wasn't that the insurance didn't want to pay for the Lamictal, they just didn't want to pay for a million 25mg pills of Lamictal. They will however pay for the 100mg dose as it's cheaper for them. The nurse called in enough Lamictal for me until I see pdoc next Thursday so we can decided if 100mg is enough or do I need to go up and what do we need to do then with the insurance!

Thanks everyone so much for your replies!!

My insurance never hesitates to give me Lamictal, but they have a weird thing about Cymbalta. I take 120 mg., but at least once a year they decide that 60 mg./day is all they'll pay for. So, my pdoc gets on the phone and yells at them and they fill the Rx.

Heh.. if only they would.. if only. "Yep, I take a bottle of abilify a day" **Pharmacy hands over 30 bottles** "That'll be one co-pay, ma'am."
