NottheMama
I'm titrating up on Prozac. Was on 20mg for 6 wks, moved up to 30mg about 6 days ago and am supposed to go to 40 tomorrow, next pdoc appt in t-minus 22 days. I've had a chronic sore throat for 5 days, stiffness in my neck and am tired all the time, today I'm having trouble swallowing. There's no redness or swelling visible in my throat to indicate this is a cold. I'm not sneezy or runny in my nose either. I do also feel like I'm sliding deeper into depression and I have no interest in anything. The random anxiety is no longer present its just back to becoming incident dependent angst and I can't freaking focus on a damn thing. My appetite is nil and I just want to hide away somewhere dark and cozy for oh, eternity. Mornings are a special hell where its very hard to extract myself from my bed. Pdoc said we need to try meds for 8 to 12 weeks. And I'll forge through if I'm supposed to but how long do I put up with this? Where's the end? Or should I call? Now. I hate feeling so whiny and indecisive. Thanks for being here. I appreciate your input. ~NtM
The Emperor
I would definitely call about that. All of it.
SugarBooger
Don't torture yourself for 8 weeks, call the pdoc. However, I have noticed that waiting side effects out makes them go away after a week or two. If you feel unable to tolerate waiting, call. blueandgray
Whether you want to stay on the meds or not, call. It will help you make a more informed decision.
chimpmaster
how bad is the sore throat/swallowing symptom? Id get this checked out earlier rather than later if I was you. It could be an allergic reaction. It could also be a drop in your white blood cell count which makes you more susceptible to colds and flu. If it's the former, you will probably need to change meds; if its the latter then the symptoms should pass. That said, if you were going to get an allergic reaction, I would expect it right from the beginning, not at the point of titration to a higher dose. And it could just be a cold. Don't discount that. But its best if a dr makes the call not you or I. FYI I have been on prozac for years and it worked for me for the most part very well. Very good for depression, panic and anxiety. Like most sari's it can poop out on you and cause sexual dysfunction - this is why my dr has recently changed me to remeron.
Anna
I'd call the doctor about this also. It could be an allergic reaction, besides which it doesn't sound like the medication is having a very positive effect thus far. Really, I would call. Difficulty swallowing is nothing to play around with. Anna
