Beetzart
What a strange two months it has been. Mainly the last one, since going upto 150 mg, which has seen me have some frequent side effects. Most days I feel nauseous and some days so tired I could sleep standing up plus I have become very apathetic and little gives me pleasure. It is hard to say whether the depression has lifted but there glimmers of hope when days, like today, I feel moderately fine. Could some of this be down to coming off olanzapine? I came off slowly with direction from my pdoc (I was put on it for sleeping 4 years ago and was on 10 mg) and am surpised my sleep hasn't really suffered. Also with the venlafaxine some days my brain feels like it has been stirred with chopsticks! Another thing I have found with it is I can feel very irritable. People irritate me with stupid smalltalk especailly at work. Thankfully I just smile and nod without getting rude but I feel like sometimes I could shout 'Why don't you just fuck off?!'. I do a boring job and at the moment I am picking up leaves in parks and some passers by always feel compelled to ask me stupid questions which wind me up. One bloke, as I was stomping down loads of leaves on the back on our van, said with a cocky grin 'don't you ever get the urge to just jump into them?'. I just replied 'no' and carried on. Then I thought, why on earth would I want to jump into a load of wet, dirty leaves covered in dog piss/shit? Does he think I am that simple or something? Anyway that is just an example of how I have been feeling. I am going to perservere with this AD and my pdoc says he may add in mirtazapine if needed. I am afterall only on 150 mg so there is room to increase.
rowan77
When I took Venlafaxine It took me until I hit 300mg to feel any real positive effects so you may just need to go higher. The reuptake effects of venlafaxine are dose dependent. At low doses (<150 mg/day) it acts only on serotonergic transmission. At moderate doses (>150 mg/day) it acts on serotonergic and noradrenergic systems, whereas at high doses (>300 mg/day) it also affects dopaminergic neurotransmission. So that MAY be the reason I had to take the higher dose because of the way it affects dopamine neurotransmission at that dose. Who knows? I believe that the combiniation of venlafaxine and mirtazapine is good for treatment resistant depression.
