WL5734
Ok so I'm new to all this business. Been on adderall for a few months. Now Dr. thinks I could have Cyclothymia instead of ADHD and gave me Depakote at 8am and 8pm and I take Adderall 20mg at 7am and 11am. I just finally got brave enough to try the Depakote last night. I googled it and scared the shit out of myself. I have trouble falling asleep at night because I'm thinking constantly. Dr. gave me Seroquel XR 150mg & said take 4 hrs before bedtime. I'm worried it's gonna knock me completely out for hours and I have 3 kids I gotta get up and get going every morning. Would any of you mind sharing your experiences with me? Thanks! bpladybug
yes, you are right i am not a doctor, but i am a patient who takes seroquel when i started with it i took 25 mgs at night, and I slept and slept and it was regular, not XR lots of other people start at 25 mgs, I got samples from my doctor now I take 400 mgs of quel but that is for other bipolar symptoms
Becks
I'm another Seroquel patient. I also take the IR not the XR, the XR kicked my tush. I also started out at 25mg and worked my way up, I'm now on 500mg and like ladybug it's for other bipolar symptoms I have. I find that if I take it 12 hours before I need to be up, I'm fine getting up in the morning. I know how it feels to worry about being knocked out too deeply to care for your kids (I have 7) and believe me, mother insticnt kicks in and I hear whoever needs me in the middle of the night and I don't have much of an issue getting up in the morning. RebelSong
I'm taking 50 mg of XR and it makes me sleep ages. From what I understand, the lower dosages are more for sleep... So I would try it one night (a weekend, maybe?) and see what happens, and call your doctor if it makes you sleep too long/longer than you planned to. rowan77
I'm on Seroquel xr 400mg and I take it no later than 7:30pm, as I have to be up at 7:30am during the week. If I left it much later I would find it extremely difficult to wake up in the morning. I used to always take it at around 10pm and was so drugged in the morning but once I started taking it a few hours earlier it made a huge difference to me. So, try taking it aprox 12 hours before you have to get up and hopefully you won't feel like a zombie. However starting off on seroquel generally does leave you quite sedated, but that will wear off as you get used to it. Good luck!!
enlightened_plutonian
I found Seroquel extremely sedating at first. To be honest, I wish I had started on a Friday night rather than during the week because I had such trouble getting up the next day. I don't work (on disability), but my social life is much more active during the week. But over the next few weeks, it became easier for me to get up the next day. I would say that now, having been on the Seroquel for a few months, my getting up pattern is probably no worse than for any other night owl. Though the higher doses are supposed to be less sedating than the lower doses (though I have never tested this theory on myself, because I was only on a lower dose (300mg) for a week before going to my full dose). I take mine at 10:30pm, but it is probably best to time when you take yours depending on when you need to get up the next day. Personally for me, I have to go to bed between 12 and 1am, or I will be asleep on the sofa. But in the first few weeks of taking Seroquel, I would have to be in bed for 11pm (which was not good for me, I'm glad I could go to bed later after a few weeks). But overall I find Seroquel to be a good med for me. It helps with sleep, anxiety, and psychosis.
mcjimjam
XR keeps me sedated through the next day. I don't know why they'd give that for sleep. You only need it to last 6-8 hours, which the regular stuff does.
