netsavy006
This video was uploaded almost 3 years ago, but I just came upon this video on youtube. I don't mean to scare anyone with this video, but I thought it important for people on APs to know. It mentions taking antipsychotics can increase the risk of heart troubles. As if we didn't have enough to worry about given the other side effects that this type of medication causes. This risk won't stop me from taking my medication, because I don't like the person I am off of medication, but IMO, doctors and patients will need to of course weigh the risks and benefits when choosing which medication(s) you plan to take. Here's the video:
Blart752
Yes, this video is mainly skewed. But like Titania said antipsychotics cause weight gain, which equals cardiovascular issues. And also I've had issues with this, mainly from seroquel and zyprexa and in particular combining it with ativan or alcohol, which was not a good choice and may have affected me negatievly and caused a bad outcome. notfred
I'm not listening to youtube but I would guess it is that some AAP effect heart rhythms. Nothing new really. An issue if you have existing heart problems. Andy, Youtube is NOT a reliable source. nf
rowan77
Personally I'd rather risk having a heart attack and be happy, than stop taking my Seroquel and end up a miserable basket case with a long miserable life ahead of me
Hooker
Personally I'd rather risk having a heart attack and be happy, than stop taking my Seroquel and end up a miserable basket case with a long miserable life ahead of me I feel EXACTLY the same way. enlightened_plutonian
I would also say that chances are it is the weight gain that may lead to heart problems. That is pretty much something that most people know that fat people are more likely to have heart problems. But there are plenty of things that we can do to reduce the weight gain, such as a healthy diet and exercise. But for me I would rather treat my psychosis (that I already have in the present) than worry about something that might not even happen.
Blart752
Yeah, i would also agree that some of these things that people post really kind of make me afraid or somewhat triggered Just as goign on webmd, your like oh fuck panic attack LOL. Especially anything somatic that im just like whoa do i have that? Like that post about headaches that other guy made earlier.
netsavy006
Also, you need to stop searching for med side effects on youtube.... I will do my best... no... better than my best... Andy, Youtube is NOT a reliable source. nf I agree with you, but this video wasn't from some unknown person, it was from a company, or did I make a mistake? Personally I'd rather risk having a heart attack and be happy, than stop taking my Seroquel and end up a miserable basket case with a long miserable life ahead of me Oh I never put this up to get people to stop taking their medications. I don't plan on stopping my Clozaril either. But I feel that it's important to be well informed too, so that you can make the best decisions about your health and treatment. december_brigette
I could make a video with a cool background and effects and label it "Ambien is Evil" and then post it on CB. thats all, db *I could - but I won't because I can't write a script right now. Velvet Elvis
Some APs can cause prolonged QT intervals in people with a predisposition to heart problems. Geodon is the only one where it's mentioned on the PI shit but I've read about it happening rarely with some others. It's really nothing to worry about if you don't have problems with your heart rhythm to begin with.
muriel
I'd want to look at the actual study cited in this video before drawing any conclusions at all. Also, eating cheeseburgers increases your risk of heart attack. As does being born African-American. It really doesn't say all that much.

enlightened_plutonian
But I feel that it's important to be well informed too, so that you can make the best decisions about your health and treatment. No, this is anxiety about your meds which is irrational, and you need to start working on it. Your treatment team will work with you to make those good decisions, you do not need to try to research them and scare yourself with inaccurate material. Andy, you need to seriously address this issue and stop brushing it off. Not only have you indulged your own anxiety, you're getting to the stage where you're creating it for other vulnerable members. This post makes a lot of sense. If you want to know about your meds, ask your pdoc or read the PI sheet. Don't bother with finding crap on YouTube.
