I am currently on Lamictal and I am having trouble with my eyesight. My dosage was recently increased to 200mg and I feel great except for my sudden inability to focus my eyes as quickly as I used to able to. When I am looking at something near and look up to see something far away, I have to wait for a few seconds before I have a clear "picture." Sometimes it makes me a little nauseous. I am willing to stick it out because of how much this medication seems to have helped. Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else and if it will go away with time.

Also, lamictal is the only med right now, but my doc wants me to take Lexapro for PMS. She only wants me to take it for 7 days at a time. I only did it once and I felt so stoned. I just sat in the same spot all day and stared off into space. I tried talking to my doc about it and she told me to increase my dosage. The first time I took it I took 1/4 of a 25mg pill. She suggested I take half. I am reluctant after what happened with the first time I tried.

Side effects of Lamictal include blurred vision and diplopia - seeing double, and vision abnormalities. What you describe sounds like problems with accommadation, when it takes a while for your eyes to adjust from near vision to far vision.

Check out: Lamictal PI sheet for Lamictal side effects.

And let your doctor know what you are experiencing.

That's kind of a weird response.  "I felt stoned."  "Here, take more, you'll feel better."  LOL (I know some meds do work that way; I don't recall SSRI's being one of them.)

Also, 25mg is a pretty hefty dose of Lexapro.  Are you sure you got that right?  I take 10mg and I take it at bedtime because for me, it's pretty sedating.  I'm also pretty low-energy and low-motivation during the day, which I attribute to the Lex.  Or maybe just laziness  ;)

How about trying to take 1/4 pill at bedtime for a few days and see if your body gets used to it.  I know there's at least one person around here who uses it for PMS the way your doc is prescribing.  And it works very well.

Is it possible you'll react differently to the lexapro now that you're on a stable dose of lamictal?  I don't have experience with lex, but I know that I reacted worse to all kinds of things on no meds or on different meds.  You might check at aidsmeds.com to check your drug interactions.  I do every time I consider adding a new medication.
