nonapper09
I was prescribed 25mgs of Seroquel temporarily to help with sleep and to lower dose of klonopin. I fell asleep quickly but slept the same amount of ours (5-6). I got up once and felt drunk. I was uncoordinated, shaky, really foggy, and slurring my words. This morning I feel the same way. I feel worse on the medication than without. I've been awake for 4 hours and still feel physically and cognitively impaired. My morning dose of 30mg Adderall xr and 150 Wellbutrin did nothing to counteract these side effects. I look and feel like hell. Will these side effects diminish? Suggestions? nonapper09
Yes, it will likely get better. All AAP's tend to be sedating, Seroquel being one that is worse at lower doses then it is at higher doses. I've been on it and the sedation is disconcerting, I came off it because I fell down some stairs while sedated and hurt myself. Many people find that the sedation does get better however. I imagine if you're on it for sleep, that will be short term? Sometimes if you've been very agitated and suddenly take a sedative, it can feel very drunk and disorientating. I can't function like this. I'm shaky, unstable, and I feel like I cant talk. There's no way I'd even drive. Luckily it's the weekend. I can't take care of my children in this state. I read that it's similar to OTC sleep meds, like Benedryl and Unisome, and I have the same reaction to those.......should I bother my Dr and call her? hallowedink
In my experience, the grogginess wears off. Then again, I'm not sure that everything you're experiencing is covered under "grogginess". It would probably be a good idea to contact your pdoc. Phoenix_Rising
I've experienced the same sedation when starting Seroquel and I know how disconcerting it feels. I third calling your pdoc for suggestions.
Becks
i'm exactly like this on high doses of Seroquel XR.....now the Seroquel IR does not make me feel that way, so pdoc and I have opted for the IR instead. I'd call pdoc and discuss your concerns with him. The xr grogginess never wore off for me and it was extremely hard to function. After 14 hours of sleep for 3 days straight, I still wanted to sleep more and was nodding off constantly. A call to the pdoc is probably a good idea. Gearhead
The sedation you're talking about wore off for me, but it was awful while it was going on. Drink a lot of water; if I remember correctly, that sort of helps. Could you list your current meds and dosages in your signature when you get a chance? That would make it easier to look for possible nasty interactions. I hope you feel better soon.
lithiumboy
Suck it up and listen to everyone: It takes time to adapt to it. And to be frank, 25 mg is far too low a dose to do any damage to you. What you're experiencing is most likely just psychosomatic, doll. Hang in there, give it a few more days and if you're not feeling better, call your pdoc. That's my two cents.
rowan77
I can recall being zonked out when I started titrating up on Seroquel and it's a pretty nasty feeling alright, but honestly it DOES pass if you can just hang in there and stick it out Suck it up and listen to everyone: It takes time to adapt to it. And to be frank, 25 mg is far too low a dose to do any damage to you. What you're experiencing is most likely just psychosomatic, doll. Seroquel sedation can be horrendous for many people and is very real

Seroquel is actually supposed to be more sedating at lower doses than at higher ones, and it is often prescribed exclusively as a sleeping aid at 25-50mg. I don't think the extreme grogginess that the OP is experiencing is psychosomatic. It's true that the low dosage isn't enough to do any AP-type severe side effects though, with the exception of the extreme sedation/grogginess that Seroquel is known for. Grogginess does normally get better with time though and if OP wants to give the med a chance, then she should wait a few more days before calling pdoc. If she doesn't want to wait, there are other meds used as sleeping aids aside from Seroquel (like remeron and trazodone) to try.
enlightened_plutonian
For me the sedation did reduce with time. The first couple of nights I took Seroquel (I was on 300mg then), I couldn't get up the next day until about 3pm and I did struggle not to collapse. The lower doses are supposed to be more sedating for most people, but I can't really comment on this seeing as I started on 300mg. I gave it a bit of time, because I really wanted it to treat my symptoms. Now, I would say that it gives me the sleep I need without causing any problems (I have learnt to not get out of bed too quickly, because if I get out of bed too quickly then I am more likely to have problems such as feeling light-headed). But if you feel that you can't give it any more time then call your pdoc, because there are plenty of other options for sleep.
Guest Vapourware
OP: I can understand. 25mg of Seroquel can put me down for 15/17 hours. Then I would feel drunk for most of the day. Psychosomatic? Definitely not for me.
clownfish
Hi If you can't function on it properly I would contact the doc to tell her and perhaps she'll come up with something else. Seroquel made me really sedated when I took it and I think I was slower on it as well. Clownfish
mcjimjam
I felt like that at first. Now I'm on 200mg and I sleep really well, don't feel sedated during the day. It's great! Although 25-50mg is recommended for sleep, I cant sleep on less than 200.
