klonopin help

Recommended Posts

If it's only been 5 or 6 weeks, you could try to just stop taking it and see how you feel. However, that's a somewhat high dose so you might need to taper it. The most important question is whether the symptoms you were taking it for have resolved. If they haven't, expect them to come back once you discontinue the klonopin.

You could try taking 1.5mg a day for a week and reduce by .5mg a week until you're off. That would mean, say, taking 1mg at night and .5mg in the morning for a week, then .5 mg twice a day, etc. If you feel like a reduction every week is too fast for you, then you can do it every 2 weeks or every 10 days. There's nothing set in stone about this, you sort of have to do what works for you and your body.

Yeah the trick is to taper off it slowly. You have only been on it for a short period of time, so quitting should be fairly easy.

I agree with muriel, cutting down by .5mg/day per week would be a sensible approach. Having said that, because you have only been on it for 5-6 weeks, cold turkey would probably not be out of the question. You could try stopping and if you run into any problems, resort to the slower approach.

I am concerned about your dr's advice. He/she put you on the drug and is being terribly unprofessional by not giving you advice on how to stop.
