Benzoman
Hey guys. I'm on gabapentin as a mood stabalizer. I moved up today from 300mg at bed to 600mg at bed. when i started i got this awesome happy feeling... then it went away. Then i moved up to 600mg as my doctor prescribed and the happy feeling came back... then it went away again. I do feel all around like a more normal person when i'm on it, but it makes me tired as all heck and makes me very nausious. Sometimes extremely nausious, but the psych nurse says that should go away in a couple weeks after I'm on my full dose of 1200mg, with 2 300mg doses taken during the day and 600mg at bed. Can anyone shed some light onto the nausea, and why my extremely happy feeling i had when i started and increased my gabapentin went away? Also any tips for fighting off the tiredness? thanks guys. Blart752
uhh well the extremely happy feeling is only temporary and goes up when moving up on doses. If you take it at the same time every night, this happy feeling does go away. The nauseous feeling, u may want to check the name brand, cause I had a case where i was getting nauseous and then i switched pharmacies to a different name brand and then i felt better. I swear to god, the plastic crap they put in these capsules sucks. Why can't the capsule be lightweight and made from vegetable shortening or something gelatin like, like the stuff they use in vitamin supplements. crtclms
Try having some milk or a few crackers when you take your neurontin, it might help. I was on neurontin twice, and this last time it made me really sluggish at first. I was sleeping about 13-15 hours a day if I didn't have to get up. After a couple of weeks it stopped sedating me. I haven't had the "happy" feeling, but it may be giving you a buzz at first. It won't last, but eventually it should smooth out your mood.
Anna
The nausea and fatigue should go away. Neurontin is not known for being that great of a mood stabilizer. I take it, but more for anxiety. Anna

Benzoman
I get chest pains when I try to up the dose like my doctor told me to. I'm even getting them now and a pain in my arm. But I got that the first time i went up a dose so it doesn't bother me that much, plus the gabapentin is making me feel good. are the chest pains anything normal or anything anyones ever experienced? Also don't tell me to go to the hospital. Leave that up to me. The chest pains are minor. If you tell me to go to the hospital i'll kick you in the thigh. crtclms
Have you ever had a panic attack before? Just wondering, since you are being treated for anxiety. The physical symptoms you are experiencing*could* all be attributable to a mild panic attack, but do NOT take that as a diagnosis. You might want to look up the symptoms of an panic attack. You should call your doctor if it continues, no point in running to the hospital unless things become severe.

It wasn't a panic attack, even though the crisis social workers over the phone tried to assure me it was. This was real pain. And i know how i feel when i'm anxious or panic... this wasn't it. I was on cloud nine... I just had those physical symptoms. The chest and arm pain didn't subside today so I went to the hospital. Waited about 7 hours and got checked out. My hearts good. I can sleep a little easier now knowing that. I'm never upping my gabapentin again. I'm going to wait for my appointment with my pdoc before I put any more of this crazy wonderful stuff into my body then i already do. or alternatively i'll wait another week and try again once the 600mg dose has had time to assimilate to my system and my body is used to it. Blart752
I thought u just had nausea, not chest pain. Certain generic brands differ in people, for me mylan sucks for me for pretty much everything except for like maybe percocets and flexeril. but in general mylan gives me all sorts of side effects. crtclms
Um, you can feel real pain during a panic attack. Did someone tell you you couldn't? It often mimics a heart attack. You have still not listed a symptom that is inconsistent with a panic attack. That doesn't mean that you had one, but you need to know all the symptoms before you can be so certain. And you went to the hospital for no reason.
notfred
That is what is so incapacitating about a panic attack. It takes over your nervous system and lots of things can happen, like pain. nf
Benzoman
The strange thing is, I was feeling really good at the time from the gabapentin when I was going through the thick of the chest and arm pain. I was anxiety free. I was in a state where i really felt well for the first time in a long time. I just had those nagging pains. Even though some may think I went to the hospital for nothing, its very re-assuring that my pains were not cardiac or heart related. I can move on now knowing that something else, non lethal, is going on. Generally the pains come if i up my gabapentin two fast. in one instance i was on 600mg for two days and then went up to 900mg at once. I think that was the mistake.I should have waited longer. i had just heard so many good things about gabapentin that I wanted to try and keep up with the schedule my doctor gave me for titrating up the medication. But as a psych nurse told me when she called me yesterday, everyone is different and I might be someone who needs to up my gabapentin a little slower to avoid extremely bothersome side effects... and that seems to be the case. Also I plead with you to try not to judge me. I'm just coming off invega which effectively controlled my anxiety and I'm in a scary new world inside, and these side effects put the fear of god in me. I'm sure a lot of you know the feeling. Coming off invega was like having a warm blanket ripped from me, but it was nessessary due to hormone changes and high blood pressure. Much love, please go easy on me.
