Benzoman
Hi. I take 5 mg reactine (cetirizine) every day yet still for some strange reason i'll get random pink rashes that come and go. Its really weird. I think it might be related to my clothes. When I wear polyester I itch. I can't take benadryl because it makes my heart want to explode out of my chest in a fireworks display of narly proportions. DUST! Dust as well gives me an allergic reaction. Its like I can't touch anything unless i've wiped it down with a wet paper towel and gotten rid of the dust. If i don't... Hives and a rash. Any suggestions? benadryl is out of the question except in dire situations where I get a full body rash. Then I'll take half of one and then the other half a half hour later. notfred
You can take 10 mgs cetirizine, you might try that. Allergy desensitization (allergy shots) worked for me. Dust is one of the things I was desensitized to. nf
Benzoman
the thing about 10mg cetirizine is that i'll get closed eyed hallucinations where i think i'm in the middle of a conversation and then i'll open my eyes and be like holy shit. Or i'll see someone driving a car towards me screaming WHAT DO YOU WANT. so i'm sensitive to antihistamines i guess you could say. same thing happens if i take 2 benadryl. I'm thinking at this point because the cetirizine used to work and i've been using it for months that i've built a tollerance so maybe i can up the dose without hallucinating. I think i might give that a try.

Benzoman
I have a script for 20 mg of cetirizine on hold at the pharmacy because the over the counter stuff was cheaper according to the pharmacist. I hate it when medications aren't covered under my plan. Its like, why can't ambien be covered i want some damn sleep lol
helenllama
With the clothes one - check your washing powder. Especially if you have just changed it or they may have changed formulation.
Gearhead
Helenllama has a good point. I've had equally good luck with Tide Free, Seventh Generation Natural Laundry Detergent Free and Clear, and also with the unscented one that Planet makes. Stop using dryer sheets, too. Use dryer balls instead.
Blart752
also, claritin may be better as well.
Benzoman
also, claritin may be better as well. would it be as effective? I get random rashes that come and go on my body.
Octopuppy
I have to use a non-bio washing powder and no fabric softener on my clothes, and only cotton. As for dust, I carry vinyl gloves on me in case I do need to touch something dusty. Can your doctor give you something else? I used to take citirizine but it wasn't that effective, and loratadine made me sleepy and those are the only two OTC anti-histamines available here. But my doc was able to prescribe another option for me.
cct
I get random hives and skin itchiness that come and go. Right now I'm taking Allegra (generic: fexofenadine) 180mg once a day as needed. I've also used Claritin (generic: loratadine) and will probably switch back to that once I run out of Allegra. From what I've read Claratin is a little more effective for hives and itching but of course everyone is different. I only use Benadryl as a last resort because it makes me sleepy and leaves me drowsy and hungover-feeling the next day.
notfred
I have hives. The dermatologist said cetirizine (Zyrtec) is the treatment of choice for them. Too bad I take a double dose and still get them. Zyrtec is very effective for my allergies.
mcjimjam
I'm suffering from hives at the moment. The only thing that seems to help is Phenergan (promethazine). It's over the counter here in Australia, I don't know if it is where you are. It causes some drowsiness but its not too bad.
melissaw72
IMO, when you start to get a rash with ANY med, I'd call your DR and let him/her know. Then they can make the decision whether or not to stop taking it and can monitor the rash until it goes away.
