Yet another Remeron question

Recommended Posts

I was just rx'd it, 30mg at night, and reading up on crazymeds, I noticed that it's well known for pooping out.

I'm wondering, is there withdrawl, and if so, is it like ssri discontinuation? Because I've got a huge fucking problem with that, and if so, I'm not even going to bother filling it.

Remeron does have a withdrawal syndrome.  I experienced it.  It is often masked if you are taking an SSRI concurrently and are not stopping the SSRI at the same time.

If you are taking it as a stand alone drug you are more likely to feel the withdrawal.  The incidence of withdrawal with this drug is lower in terms of percentage of people affected.  For instance, in the UK where they are really more concerned about these things than the American pdocs seem to be, they estimate 80% of people taking paxil will have some kind of withdrawal, whereas remeron is in the 15% category.  But if you are in the 15% category it sucks.  The UK warning on remeron having a withdrawal syndrome was just published within the last month.  I saw it posted on another board I was on.  Before that, my pdoc insisted I couldn't be having withdrawal to remeron.  What the hell!  Yep doc I'm imagining the severe nausea, dizziness and suicidal ideation.  Felt very vindicated to bring the medical journal entry in to him!

As for what some pdoc said about it being a "perfect" drug: It made my anxiety worse and made me soooooooooo angry I can't even describe it adequately.

It seems to work better in combo with another drug, however.
