Panz
I'm trigger tagging this because it's graphic. My landlady's old white pony has had a bad leg and didn't move around a lot, so early this morning when I went out to feed her and she wasn't there, I was worried and went looking for her. Calling her name I started into the pasture and hear her whinny. I was not ready to find her lying on her side with part of her rear leg chewed up, pools of fresh blood around her. So I spent the morning in the wind and driving rain holding up a dying pony until the lad lady and the emergency vet could get there to put her down...I really loved the old mare, she had spirit and a big bad attittude...God! this sucks. But the sucking doesn't stop there. While going to the wood pile to get pieces of wood to hold the tarp over the dead pony, I found my beautiful tabby mangled and dead also. DiDi was the suniest most loving cat in the world. I can't deal with this. I'm numb and can't cry. I'm dissociating and feeling like a zombie. The sheriff and the vets say that it is one or more dogs, well fed enough not to want to eat the animal, out to roam and kill for the fun of it. People let thier dogs out early to run and don't give it a second thought. There has even been an effort to crack down on this. But people do it anyway. I miss my kitty and the old white pony. They didn't need to die.
Spike
Panz, I am so very sorry for your losses! and there has recently been trouble in my neighborhood with gangs using lose pets as part of their initiation rites...they mutiliate them. you can hear the poor animals screaming, and calling the police doesn't work as the poor thing is dead by the time they arrive. and, yes, they have stepped up patrols, but they can't be every where at once and there are woods across the street several months ago I had to put down my beloved cat and dog the same day it was a very long time before I would not burst into tears thinking of them please know that my thoughts are with you spike
tigrre
God thats awful! What did those owners do to get those dogs so mean in the first place? And if you somehow just owned a dog that vicious on its own WHY WOULDN'T YOU KEEP IT LOCKED UP??? AHHH... if those dogs are killing animals for fun what's going to stop them from attacking kids? "irresponsible pet owners suck" is an gross understatement. Those people are a bunch of fucking assholes and I hope the city finds them and... GAAAAHHH I don't even know what they should do but it should be REALLY REALLY BAD!!! THOSE ARE EVIL PEOPLE!!! I considered using the frowny-pissed-off smiley but that makes a mockery of how angry I am. I'm so sorry about your kitty and the horse, panz. You have my deepest sympathies. frosty
I am very out there when it comes to animal abuse and neglect. If there is anything I react to in fury or rage. this is it. I am incapable of consoling you all that have had a loss especially under the worst circumstance... I have been there and after ,so many years, pain still remains. I always let my kitties past and present out in a confined, restricted area, 3rd floor enclosed deck, cattery, . No one in, no one out.. When there are freaks or some sort of vicious animal out there I post signs and warnings to all pet owners to keep pets in or be on the watch.. What more can you do. I feel so much pain.. If I heard animals screaming, I know I would stupid enough just to go out there and try to save anything no matter what price I would pay. God help all those that cannot help themselves... Pray for all helpless things that people have hurt and destroyed.. From my very soul Frosty...

I wish I could find the words to express my sorrow for you and the animals. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> me too.... this shit upsets me as well.... in fact, my dog was abandoned and abused before we got him from a shelter. he was apparently found tied up to a fence with a rope so short that he could have almost been hung..... ugh, just thinking about that and my puppy gives me the chills.... i still call him my puppy even though he is about 13 yrs old
olga
Dear Panz: We have a leash law, too, but a lot of people just let their dogs run loose. I can't let my chickens out on my own property because the dogs come into the barnyard and kill them. It's very frustrating. I'm so sorry about the horse and the kitty. Breeze has been convincing me to keep my cats indoors at night because we have coyotes in this area. (I hear them howling at night.) It's so hard to lose a pet---it never gets any easier as I get older. You have my sympathy and I hope there's a tdoc or someone you can talk to about your grief. Of course, we're here if you want us. olga
cattwomannc
Oh Panz, I am devastated for you. Nothing I could say could lessen the loss you have suffered. And you have every right to be very angry! I hate people who let their dogs roam free (sadly, about 75% of the people in my area). It is not fair to the animals and not fair to the people who live around them. I'm positive that most of my neighbors do not even get their dogs rabies shots, which just pisses me off even more. Perhaps, since the Sheriff is aware of the situation, something will be done before these dogs injure another pet, or even someone's child... Also, maybe you could get a local reporter interested in the story? We had a horrible woman in town with a puppy mill who was selling sick puppies for hundreds of dollars. Animal Control couldn't actually catch her breaking any laws, but the local paper ran several stories about her to hopefully deter people from buying her puppies. Panz
Thank you all so much for your posts. The wildlife fish and game guy was just here and "confirmed" that it was dogs out having fun. I am the most upset with the owners who are by and large backwards, damba$$es and seem to think it is thier right to let the dogs out to roam the country side running down stock and killing pets. The dogs are not innately bad, they are just without supervision and reverting to instinct. The owners, however, i'd like to chase around and beat with a stick. Spike - we have had problems with cat mutilations by either cult or gangs in our area, what makes people do this kind of crap? Olga - I've lost chickens to them too, AND the other two outside kitties are going in the storage house at night from now on. I've set up a corner for them with tubs and old blankets I will miss my DiDi most of all....I put her outside because she was getting so over weight just laying around. I figured she wouldn't go far and could use the exercise before her weight killed her, she was the most good natured, loving, forgiving cat ever. She seldom left the front yard. I was just about to try to lure her back in for winter. Sleep Sweet DiDi Sunshine I shall forever think of you laying in my flower bed warm summer around us as I weeded I miss you so. Batou
Panz, I am so very sorry. This hurts on so many levels. I have worked on a couple of horse farms and we would take in and care for neglected and abused horses. Both of my bassets were rescue dogs. Both abused before I got them. My female is still frightened of everyone but me. My big boy just needed to be loved. I was able to give him a loving home for several years before I had to have him put down last Novemeber due to severe arthistis in his back. Watching him in pain was so difficult and I still miss him so much. I hope the white mare and DiDi are running pain free in green grass and sunshine over the Rainbow Bridge where my Butch went to last year. Irresponsible pet owners are not pet owners, they do not deserve the title. Rainbow Bridge Says it so well. Erika
AirMarshall
I've seen lambs killed by marauding dogs, and had them attack and kill rabbits in their cages, and occasionally run the cattle a little.
wifezilla
I hate crappy people. Pets are a responsibility...a long term responsibility. If you are not going to be home to take care of your pet and be responsible for what your pet is doing, DON'T GET ONE! The dogs in my neighborhood are left out all day and all night...in all weather. The don't get played with or walked. So what do they do? BARK ALL THE DAMN TIME! Doesn't bother them...they aren't here..but I AM!!! And sometimes those neglected dogs do get out...but they are so unsocialized, you can't simply take them home...they try to bite you if you approach them. I want to get ducks, but my other neighbor lets her male cat roam, and he is always getting into my yard, and eating my cats food. If I got ducks, they would be dead in a day. withing
When I read about things like that, I want to get a shotgun. For the dogs, or the owners, I don't know, but it makes me so angry! I'm sorry for your loss Panz. Losing a pet is always hard, losing one to senseless violence is twice as bad.
