diane
Hi- So I've been on Paxil, Celexa and a low (ssri-wirthy) dose of Effexor, and I gained weight on each (about 10-15 lbs each time, losing it when I discontinued.) For the Effexor, which is what I am on now, I think it's mostly a combination of the sedating effects along with the carb cravings. I have to go to the med doc this morning later on, and I don't know what to tell her about it. The Effexor has also killed my libido. Unfortunately, it makes me feel so much better, so it's the Works but Side Effects tradeof. I am also on 300mg of Wellbutrin. So the question is, if you tend to gain on one SSRI, is it likely you will gain on all? -Diane

Guest Guest_Diane_*
Hey Frosty, thanks. You and your doc are right - they definitely made me crave more carbs and I was much more tired while I was on them, so I am sure my aerobic levels were not what they should be. I'm about to switch to Cymbalta and I am really hoping I can stick with the better-food-more-vitamins-more-exercise thing I started. Have a good Thursday. -Diane
frosty
I don't know anything about Cymbalta but I hope your Doc realizes thar for most women - weight gain contributes a lot to depression and any woman who has heavy issues about weight gain should never be put on any Pill that will cause significant weight change as has been observed in clinical trials such as Paxil ect ect. If they want you to get better but you gain so much weight that you ebd up hating yourself. well what's the point... I was never put on remeron - because my doc guaranteed I would plump up and not be able to lose it. Se he takes my whole being into consideration before prescribing. I hope you are successfull in all ways on Cymbalta. Good Luck and Shake that Body!!!! Frosty...
shymama
I gained on Cymbalta. I felt hungry all the time, even within an hour after eating a big healthy meal. Also, I craved carbs and sugar/junk. Please re-think if you want to try this drug. I am on day three of coming off 30 mg and I am fucking miserable. I hope there is a special place in Hell for the the people at Eli-Lilly who pushed this through and am starting to understand why that girl hung herself. tallulah
most SSRI's have a reputation for weight gain, unfortunately. i was on effexor and gained nearly 20lbs - regardless of the amount of exercise. i DID eat a lot more. food was a major problem, i couldnt get enough. im sorry about your loss of libido, i had the same problem. when i went over 75mg, i just couldnt have sex. i tried to explain to my doc that the weight gain was having a serious effect on my depression; i mean...really, "how can you be happy when your clothes dont fucking fit?!" it does have a major impact on your happiness. BUT, effexor made me batshit insane - and now that im stable on other medication weight isnt much of an issue anymore. if you're really unhappy, please discuss this with your doctor. there ARE other options out there for you...
