colin
I'm having panics at some very inconvienant times. I was wondering if there is a consensus on this medication wise. I read that zoloft is the most beneficial ssri for panic and for quick on the spot xanax qr is the best- Anyone try either of these?
San
My personal experience with Zoloft was bad. I had violent thoughts and bda anxiety, but some people swear by it. YMMV. Xanax is a benzo, and you can get tolerant, but it stops my anxiety in its tracks.
Kodos
Klonopin instead of Xanax
chimpmaster
SSRIs are better for daily ongoing therapy; there are no issues with dependence when taking an ssri every day. Benzos like xanax are better for PRN use - i.e. taken when needed. For some people this may mean everyday, though. Few dr's in this day and age will prescribe a drug like xanax or klonopin as mono-therapy. They are very effective and very useful meds when used properly, which usually means in conjunction with something else like an anti-depressant. So to answer your question, daily zoloft (or another sari) with xanax as a backup for panic attacks would probably be your best line of defence.
