Benzos make me smarter

Recommended Posts

I'm on 6mg clonazepam a day and 2 mg ativan a day prn. It makes me smarter and i will prove this to you now through this amazing feat. Yes, I will count to five,.

1...2.............3....4...10.

In all seriousess i need to get off these but when i saw the pdoc a few days ago he basically said no, we're not going to do that yet. And I've been on benzos for at least 3 years. I'm lucky i'm still able to form coherent sentences.

Any other long term benzed people here itching to get rid of the physical dependence?

Yes, I want OFF them. I too feel as though they might be contributing to my stupidity. It's either that or the Lamictal, I haven't decided yet. But I'm *technically on 30 mg of Valium a day. I only take 10-20mg on most occasions, and like Mackie, I've started to reduce on my own, which I know I shouldn't do, but I think that if I feel as though I can go without them, then I should at least TRY. I wouldn't suggest this to anyone as it is most safely done under your doctor's supervision.

Why don't you just take them and be happy instead of worrying this subject to death ?

I agree. If they help, take it. Stupid is subjective. I function far better on, than off.

I'd like to see a reputable source on that, as well.

Ive been on a benzo for around 8 years. A year of xanax and diazepam since then. Initially I was on up to 40mg/day. For the past few years though I have been on 10mg/prn.

I take it about 4-5 times per week, but definitely not every day. Some days I do need a little more than 10mg; maybe 15-20mg.

  • 2 weeks later...

I lost big swaths of reading comprehension and mental math abilities for a couple of years.

(ETA: glad they seem to be getting better with more practice... I read a whole book last May for the first time in at least 2 years with my eyes instead of my ears).

We (providers and I) suspect benzos.

I am very glad to be off them now, and also very glad I have other things that work better for me (Nugget the service dog and mad skillz).

Stupid isn't always subjective.

:)

ETAA: There did seem to be a pretty big benefit for me to be on benzos long enough to help me chill the fruck out. But when the PTSD stuff was kickin' away hard, 6mgs of lorazepan scheduled plus 2 x1mg prn didn't do much.
