So far, Wellbutrin is an amazing med!

Recommended Posts

I think Wellbutrin didn't work for me last time because I was only on 150 mg and was also on Pristiq, Lithium, and Tegretol at the time...I was just snowed. But now at 300 mg, I feel much better already (it's been almost 2 weeks). The insomnia is a bit burdensome, but thankfully I don't feel tired all day. More motivated and a bit more sociable, more active. But the best part...I have quit smoking. Honestly, I didn't even have a choice; it makes me not get any pleasure from cigarettes, and I went through the "withdrawal" without any withdrawal at all! I mean usually when I try to quit I get psychotic, anxious, and feel really sick. After about 8 days of Wellbutrin, I just stopped both the gum and the smoking :)

Yay! Good job on quitting smoking and I'm glad you feel better. Wellbutrin was awesome for my depression, but it made my anxiety so bad I had to stop it. It didn't help me quit smoking either :( But then I was only on 150mg, maybe if I'd have been on more I would have found it beneficial for that.

isn't wellbutrin the same drug as zyban?

Yep....Wellbutrin has the same active ingredient bubropion, as the smoking cessation drug Zyban.

koali, Good to hear that it is working well for you and fantastic news that you were able to give up the cigarettes!!

Wellbutrin will cut back your urge to smoke, it won't make you stop altogether.

I unconsciously cut back on my smoking once I started using it, but it was from a pack down to a half pack a day. This was a couple of years before it was being marketed as a anti-smoking med.

I continued to smoke a half pack a day until I quit, which was 12 years later. Then I quit cold turkey. But, maybe the Wellbutrin is the reason that I haven't had the longing to smoke that a lot of ex-smokers have.

But anyway, the point is, it is only an aid. You still have to make an effort to quit.

Thank you for the support and for sharing in my good news :) I'm glad to hear other people love Wellbutrin too. I have strange dreams on it, but in some ways they are interesting. And yes, I "chose" to quit, but at least for me, all desire to smoke was gone. So it's an aid, a "drug" for another. Works for me. I kind of feel like I cheated cause it was so easy but I'm just happy to be done with it! :)

Congrats! I have been on Wellbutrin for about a month, and I find I get less pleasure from food. I'm hoping it helps with the weight loss because I have put on a lot of weight in the past year, and I would like to take some of it off.

I have the same thing. Food is less interesting to me. Happily, I've lost about 10 pounds in the past 3 months without even trying. Hope it does the same for you.

I'm so glad that it is working for you! I was on it for a couple of weeks, and the first week was great! Second week, not so much, but I'm sure that won't happen to you as I react strangely to everything.

I loved how I felt on it the first week though. If I knew I could get past the weeks following I would try it again in a heartbeat.

I just wanted to add my congrats on quitting. Everyone in my family smoked and it was the toughest thing to quit. Plus I watched my old man die in his 40s (2 packs a day) I hope the Wellbutrin works for you Saoirse. Don't be afraid to ask for a dose change. I had to make 3 dose changes and add a drug to get it right.

I'm taking a large dose of Wellbutrin which is making my insane life doable. I also have had to deal with anxiety which maybe? Partly the Wellbutrin. I've been taking Buspar which has helped (Or I'm just not letting things get me worked up as much - Through Talk Therapy) I also have Valium PRN which helps *Knowing its handy if I flip my wig. Oh! I think its also helped me continue to loose weight and keep it off. Food doesn't seem so "Automatic all the time" aka munching crap all the time.

I want to say that its good to switch when or if things don't work. I was ready to stay on Celexa because it worked for the depression and accept the inorgasmia junk. Switching to this 2 drug plan works and doesn't come with the baggage.
