PBF
Sorry to hear you're not doing too good. To answer your question, yes, seroquel can help with intrusive thoughts. It helped with my intrusive suicidal/paranoid thoughts back when I took 200-300mg day. However, its nothing compared to zyprexa. Since I'm on zyprexa, I don't have any intrusive thoughts. Works like magic for that. Maybe you could up your seroquel with your doc, its a good med. Target dose is 300mg/day by the way. If it doesn't work, you may want to consider something else. Zyprexa maybe or other atypicals. PBF

Leela
Hey, I don't know how the previous quote was repeated with my name attached-major error but I totally agree. I wa put on Seroquel when I was off the chart with thought running rampant out of control, voices, etc... My doc put me on it in his office and literally by the time I got home things had subsided. I am currently on a moderate dose but up it as SOON as things get racey and it controls it very quickly. I love this med! It is in addtion to other BPII and anxiety meds also. Good luck-Leela
username
For sure. I am on a pretty high dose (600mg a day) and it has been great for these intrusive thoughts that many with OCD have.

antipeople
For intrusive thoughts, I found Risperdal to be the best.
Fiona
Yes. I've found that Seroquel is great for those intrusive and obsessional thoughts. It has really eliminated or vastly reduced all of these thoughts. I'm certainly grateful! The effect is enough to allow me to do things that the thoughts would have prevented me fromdoing in the past. It may take more than 50mg/day to have a noticable effect, though. The usual dose is a bit above that and I take 600mg/day. Fiona
witchywoman
I don't know much about meds, but my pdoc has put me on low dose seroquel for sleep (not taking it anymore), and now am on Risperdal for intrusive thoughts. I know I wasn't very helpful, but I thought maybe my experience would be helpful? Maybe? Oh well, good luck with your meds. I hope you feel better. determined
I hope not to enter in where i dont belong, but all of your posts are such a relief to read,to know that my daughter isnt alone. my daughter was driven insane this summer, and I dont use that term lightly...from a med wash when a pdoc decided she wasnt bipolar after 6 years, and only aspergers, med wash started in may and by August she was so plagued by intrusive thoughts, hallucinations, delusions, etc it was awful to see her feel so bad, the worst being intrusive thoughts.(well and lots of self harm stuff too) I hope once she is out of the hosp she can come here and find support, thanks for sharing...the doc trialed seroquel for such a short time I wonder if it wasnt long enough. Loon-A-TiK
Hi there! My real name is Melinda and I have BP1 w/psychotic features. My most recent episode, that put me in the hospital 2 weeks ago, was severe mania w/phychosis. I was screaming obsene things, ripping up my triage room at the hospital, thought that they were trying to cage me for use in medical experiments...hey, when you're loony, your loony! About Seroquel- I tried it back in March and at the dose of under 200mg, it did nothing but make me sleep until kingdom come. And it gave me shakes and that "jumping out of your body" feeling. I couldn't stand the side-effects. Then I started escalating into another mania, and my pdoc immediately, with no titration, raised my Seroquel to 600mg to hopefully stop the mania. All it did was make my side-effects much worse, so I took myself off of it, and my pdoc responded with Abilify, which did make me manic and I had lots of intrusive thoughts, so I went off of it as well. For several months, I did not take any AP drug. Then, I had this recent attack of mania with psychosis, and my treatment team told me I had to add another mood stabilizer. I suggested Seroquel over the other options, because it is going to be submitted, wtih robust studies, to the FDA for approval as the second drug FDA approved to treat mania and depression in the BP. And it is anti-psychotic! You are asking about its benefits for psychosis/intrusive thoughts/stuff. I have the experience there! Go for the doses at around 600mg to deal with that. I'm at 300mg and expect to go up with my next pdoc appointment. It doesn't make me tired at all anymore and I am not experiencing any side effects except for a brain fog, which I treat successfully with sports drinks, of all cures!!! I also have PTSD, so that is the king of intrusive thoughts, and the Seroquel seems to help. I am hoping that at the higher dose these thoughts will be totally squashed. Well, that is my novel for the day! peace and luck, Melinda aka Loon
Bohemian
For intrusive thoughts, well, my current med combo knocks them all out. Best, Chris
