I was just put on 200mg Seroquel. I was on Abilify, but not anymore, thank G_d. How has Seroquel worked for you? So far it's knocking me out... I feel so tired after taking it that I almost feel drunk! I'm hope that wears off soon. How has Seroquel worked for you? Feel a little high right now... At least I should be able to sleep well!

Now I love it, just love.

I use extended release.

However when I first tried it I hated it, and I only gradually built up my dose

when increases were needed due to mania.

We finally got up to 400 mgs and this winter I did not fall victim to depression.

That was wonderful for me.

I'm with bpladybug here. I love my Seroquel too!!!

Yes at the beginning I was very sedated, dizzy, had postural hypotension (drop in blood pressure when I stood up) leading to feeling faint and generally fairly rotten. But this all passed and the only time I feel over sedated and groggy is in the morning if I don't take Seroquel early the night before. I make sure to take it no later than 7:30pm, which is 12 hrs before I have to be up on a weekday morning and this prevents the groggy effect next morning. I am also on the extended release version which for me is much less sedating than the Immediate release version.

I find it fantastic for several of my symptoms

  • sleep
  • depression
  • mania
  • irritability
  • anxiety

It's an all rounder. Good luck with it and if you can stick out the side effects till they pass it is well worth the patience!!

Another lover here. Well, most of the time (sometimes I do complain about it controlling me or altering my sense of reality or other stuff like that, but that is usually when I'm having a bad day).

I love the sedation. It has meant no more insomnia for me since going on Seroquel. Sure it was quite excessive at first, but in time I got used to it and now when I take my meds I usually fall asleep about 3 hours after. I take my meds at 10:30pm, but I am a night owl. I go to bed at about 1am, and usually get up around 10am. In fact sedation is the only side effect that I get, and it is a very useful side effect for me.

It has also helped my anxiety a lot. And my psychosis is less of a problem. I do still have episodes under stress but these days they don't last too long. Plus I am in a much better position to respond to therapy, which is also a massive help.

Seroquel is the only psych med I take, and I am fairly stable a lot of the time.

But most of all, I have managed to get my life back. Before going on Seroquel, I was not in a position to do anything. But now I am studying at college and have applied for uni (I have an interview next week). I am also looking into volunteering over the summer. None of this would have been possible a year ago.

I hope it works for you.

Seroquel sent me over the edge and caused me to be inpatient during the canadian thanks giving weekend (it comes earlier then the american one I think).

That was just my reaction though and won't nessessarily be yours.

Slurroquel totally helped me stay alive temporarily when I needed to chemically restrain my brain.

It helped a lot with my anxiety.

I also gained nearly 40# almost instantaneously.

I'm glad it was there when I needed it and am glad to not have to take it any more.

Seroquel is great, I unfortunately had a bad reaction to it (I think it was the generic brand, because I had been on it before). I know people who swear by Seroquel. I wish I could take it, tbh.

I currently take Zyprexa. It isn't as strong, and the weight gain is way worse on Zyprexa.

If you find Seroquel too sedating, you can get the extended release (XR) version.

All the good reviews about Seroquel are very encouraging, thanks. I do have the XR version, but I can feel it start working after about an hour, and it reaches it's peak in about three. I try to wait until bed to take it, but I'm so excited to see how it affect my mood that it's hard not to take earlier. I hope it works because Abilify was a waste of time, at least for me. I started at 50mgs the other day and will go up to 150 today, then 200 tommorow. I thoroughly look forward to being knocked out cold

The first time I took Seroquel I could have slept through a rock concert. The next afternoon, I felt absolutely amazing. I can't believe what a difference solid uninterrupted sleep made for me. The heavy sedation lasted about 1.5 years(i think) before it started to become less and less effective.

I've taken seroquel twice in my life. First paired with celexa to deal with bipolar 1 disorder (300mg), and then again 4 years later at 100mg for schizoaffective disorder but the sedation was so extreme I was sleeping two days at a time. I was feeling pretty flat and down while I was taking it at 300mg for bipolar.

I was on seroquel xr for 2-3 months, could not get out of the fog at all. I was on (I think) 50mg/day. I had problems just getting out of bed (like I was preferring to just be in my bed for as long as humanly possible) I also gained a lot of weight- 60+lbs in that short of time. I was sleeping all day, not really eating and right now, I can't actually remember what I was doing at that time other than sleeping. When I was awake, I was in such a daze. I was also on celexa at the time for bipolar, the seroquel was supposed to curb some of the anxiety and depression in which in the end did work, but being unable to be awake enough to care about ANYTHING I don't think counts.

I was like that on XR, couldn't tolerate it at all. But I love instant release. Had some problems with it and dosing over the years but overall it's the first med to actually change my life in any way for the better.

So far it seems to help some, at least better than Abilify did. My nearsightedness is also gone. :D I still feel kinda depressed, but I feel much more stable, and that is giving me some of my strength back. I may talk to the pdoc about upping the dosage a little later to see if it helps more. We'll see...
