neingesicht
Has anyone taken Latuda and been sedated? I'll admit that I'm still on some Zyprexa, which I'm working to get off right now, and if you look at my signature it will look weird because I'm slowly upping the Latuda as I'm going slowly down on Zyprexa, but I'm tired quite a bit, to the point where I'm going to bed at 7:30 every night. I take my pills at 5pm, but I'm barely waking up at 7am for my job. Any thoughts would be helpful.
lifequake
I have found Latuda to be very sedating. I try to take it around 5 PM to 6 PM, too. I would be really interested to hear how it compares with other AAP's in terms of that side effect. I've been steady at 40 mg for about six weeks, and when I bumped it up to 60 mg last week, I was taking three naps a day and falling asleep by 7 PM. I have not yet found a way to combat the tiredness or to work around it. Apologies if my comment isn't what you were looking for. Aside from the somnolence and fatigue, I've found Latuda to be very helpful with mood/anxiety issues, and I'm reluctant to give up on it just yet. Banana Smurf
I was really sleepy at first on Latuda and it knocked me out soon after I took it but the sleepiness went away after a while. It took like 3 or 4 weeks for it to go away for me. At first I was sleeping ridiculous amounts, though. I've been on 40 mg for about 8 or so weeks. AnnaBanana
I've been on 40mg Latuda for 2 months now. My doctor told me to take it at bedtime. I just eat a late dinner so I have food on my stomach. I go to sleep within a couple of hours of taking it.
Zxrtpky7g
I take latuda and it knocks me out. It is pretty sedating. The only way to take it is at night, right before you go to sleep.
neingesicht
Wow these are all really helpful. Do you find it sedating during the day though? Or just at night after taking it? Because I'm having a hard time staying awake during the day, too. That said, I am on a lot of stuff, and working on getting off other stuff. llama44
I must be weird. I was on 80mg of Latuda and I never felt sleepy from it at all whatsoever. I hope the sedation goes away for you guys soon!
dorkasarusrex
Llama, you're not weird. I don't get sedation from Latuda at all since upping to 80 mg. I get the issues with insomnia. I share the same sentiment, I hope the sedation goes away or becomes tolerable for you guys - latuda has done wonders for my hallucinations and psychotic symptoms. neingesicht
It definitely works really well! I'll give you that. It could just be the mix of meds that I'm on. I'll keep you posted as I get off Zyprexa.
Savannah
I just had a recent dysphoric mania and my pdoc added Prolixin to my usual mix of Geodon and Lamictal. It has been two months now and he wants me to take a "small" amount of Latuda in addition to the Geodon and Lamictal. He gave me samples of 40mg and told me to take 1/4 of a pill. I dont see anyone that has started out at that low doseage.Anyone out there? Did it still cause sedation? I am not sure what his plan is yet, he isnt one to lay out the path, just steps. Geodon 160mg, Lamictal 400mg, Prolixin 5mg,Clonopin 2mg,Rozerem8mg
Narcissism
I must be weird. I was on 80mg of Latuda and I never felt sleepy from it at all whatsoever. I hope the sedation goes away for you guys soon! Do you happen to use Latuda/Topamax, I use Topamax listed in your drug profile. I was concerned about the contraindication between the two- but it exists between all antipsychotics. Thanks.
neingesicht
I started at 10mg, which is a quarter of a pill and found some sedation. Take this with a grain of salt, though, because I'm also on Zyprexa.
Night in Juniper
I started on 40mg Latuda at dinner- no real sedation. I increased to 80mg at dinner- no real sedation. However, for some reason and I know this is due to Latuda, I started having severe crying spells and feeling claustrophobic every night. The med seem to be helping me during the day though, so I tried to wait it out. I waited that out and it didn't change, so I tried taking the 80mg Latuda with breakfast. I was then pretty sedated throughout the day. I couldn't do my normal activities without some serious fuzziness. I'm going to try taking the 80mg at snack, long before bedtime. This is my last attempt- hoping that taking it later in the day, yet not at bedtime will end the issues at night. My psychiatrist does know about these side effects, but since it's a new drug, he hasn't had anything like that reported yet. So to the original question: it may not make you drowsy at all (except if you take it in the AM lol), but my psychiatrist said his patients typically say it helps them sleep better. I've not heard about it causing daytime drowsiness.
