Moody
I was wondering if anyone had good results using Keppra for bipolar. It doesnt seem to be a popular choice. I have already tried Lamictal, Topamax, Trileptal, lithium and Neurontin, and they all seemed to make me more up instead of calming me down. My main problem is the mixed state I get every summer. I am not sure what to try next. I am not eager to try depakote, and I would like it if could avoid AAPs, because I havent had much luck with them either. crtclms
From what I've read, there is a debate as to Keppra's effectiveness, so it may be worth a try. Everyone is different, and you really can't tell if it is for you until you try it. I would look up articles under PubMed, since it hasn't been used long or often for bipolar. Keppra has a low side-effect profile. But my husband tried Keppra for seizures, and experienced "Kepprage," which was a mood change that meant he would go into angry tirades about *anything.* But you can't really tell how any med will affect you until you try it. I just wanted to let you know about that side effect. Depakote isn't a guarantee that you will have side effects. You won't know how you respond until you take it. And having taken it a few times, I can tell you each time I had *different* side effects, so it isn't even consistent for a single person. It has been really effective for a lot of people on this board.
leapy0yo
I really pushed and wanted my doctor to give me Keppra because it is a racetam (and therefore a nootropic). However, he pushed me beack and said that it could cause mania, so it is not usuallly perscribed for bipolar.
