hueyfree123
Okay quick question and background.... Back around September or October I took Zyprexa for about 6-7 days... After the 3rd day I noticed that my ears began ringing randomly throughout the day about 2-3 times a day.. By day 5-6, the ringing was becoming stronger and longer. Day 7 I completely got off the medication cause I couldnt take it anymore. bUT THE RINGING IN MY EARS REMAINED!!! My question is this... HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED THIS WITH ZYPREXA IN SUCH A SHORT TRIAL OF THE DRUG??? Ever since then I have not taken any medications but my ears still ring CONSTANTLY!!! NEVER TURNS OFF... Has anyone else experienced this with Zyprexa ONLY in such a fast time frame?? I wonder if this will ever go away because this is just too much.. AND QUESTION 2.... For anyone who has used an ototoxic med, and has ringing in their ears... When you open your mouth or tilt your neck in certain directions, does the pitch of the ringing change?? Eden
It might be a coincidence, I experience similar ringing almost constantly. Had it before I ever took zyprexa or anything for that matter.

Same here. Mine's from chronic middle ear infections, multiple eardrum ruptures, and 5 ear surgeries. Tinnitus is pretty common with ear damage; is that something you've looked into? My very cursory google search actually suggested that Zyprexa can be used to treat tinnitus.
Guest Vapourware
If the ringing in the ears changes according to the position of your head or the movement of your jaw, that points more to a physical cause rather than anything med-related. I suggest you have a physical check-up. I believe conditions like TMJ can cause tinnitus. In the meantime, the best thing to do really is to ignore the ringing. The more you focus on it, the more maddening it will become. I have had tinnitus since I was a child, and I do my best to ignore now. Now, it is just background noise that I tune out. dedoubt
I've had tinnitus that varies in strength for decades. Some meds (mostly SSRIs) make it worse. I agree that you should get it checked out by a doc and also agree with this: In the meantime, the best thing to do really is to ignore the ringing. The more you focus on it, the more maddening it will become. I have had tinnitus since I was a child, and I do my best to ignore now. Now, it is just background noise that I tune out.
