heybeesly
I've been taking Celexa for several years now, as I think I mentioned on a previous thread. When I first started, I took it in the morning, but soon realized it made me tired, so I took it in the evening. All was fine for a while, but then after a year or two I began to become severely sleepless. My pdoc suggested I switch back to the morning. All was fine for a year or two, and then my pdoc started raising my dosages, which made me seriously tired during the day again. He recommended I switch back to taking at night. I've been taking it in the evening for about a month now, and right now I'm lucky if I get more than four hours of sleep a night. And those four hours of sleep are usually split into two short chunks, not one solid four hour piece of REM sleep. I can tell I'm not getting any sort of a full sleep cycle and it's screwing with me. Is this normal? I thought meds like this would either make you sleepy or sleepless, not both depending on when you take it! What's wrong with me? I just want to sleep and also have energy during the day.
jt07
I've taken Celexa for years at doses up to 60 mg, went off it for a year, and now am back on it at 20 mg. It has only disrupted my sleep for the first week or so when I first began to take it. Perhaps you are just sensitive to this med? Does it work for your depression or anxiety? If it works for you, then perhaps your doctor can add something more sedating to it. I take Remeron in addition to Celexa because that is a good combo for my depression. I don't take the Remeron for sleep, but it has the benefit of giving me fantastic sleep. It's something to mention to your doctor.
chimpmaster
Yeah I dont think your sleep patterns are normal, even given the celexa. Time to talk with your dr about trying other medication that might suit you better. Im thinking another ssri, maybe something like paxil or lexapro... or perhaps an SNRI like remeron or effexor. Good luck and keep posting.
heybeesly
It's definitely helping with my depression, sort of helpful for my anxiety. My pdoc has been considering adding something for my anxiety, since the celexa doesn't seem to be cutting it. I know a lot of anxiety meds help with sleeplessness, so that might be a good call. Last month he was also talking about switching me to Prozac, but wanted to see if taking this in the evening helped at all. Guess I'll see what he decides to do at my appointment tomorrow. Le sigh. jt07
I'm no doctor, but I would think that if the Celexa is helping your depression then it would be a bad idea to change it, and adding something would make more sense. I know that I went through just about all the AD's before I found Celexa which was the only one that worked for me. And the combo of Celexa and Remeron is amazing. But that is just me. And like I said, I'm no doctor.
