koali777
I mean I know they're both AAPs, but I have noticed that many similar meds have similar suffixes (like Risperdal and Invega, or benzos, etc). So lurasidone and ziprasidone are like that as well. I am starting Latuda today, my new pdoc said there are way less side effects, and I'm wondering if it's gonna be like Geodon. I liked Geodon and it was what I'd wanted to be put back on, just not overmedicated. I couldn't find the exact answer to my question, but I did find a study where both lurasidone and ziprasidone were given to schizophrenic patients in a double blind study, and the results were very similar. Maybe I'm not making sense...is it supposed to be a "better" Geodon? How's the akathesia with it btw?
koali777
Following up, I did more research and although I didn't find headers saying that Latuda is the son of Geodon, as I saw maybe 2 sites saying that about Invega to Risperdal, it seems they are very similar. I like it a lot more than Geodon though because I don't get akathisia at all. I do get really drowsy when I take it, and almost trippy like smoking marijuana or taking a lot of sleeping pills, but nothing awful. I get good sleep, am not starving. I'm hoping I'm on a low enough dose and have enough Adderall to avoid lactation. I only got it on Geodon when I was on 240 mg. I'm less jumpy and less paranoid too which is great. We will see what happens though...
dreadOHdreads
I just started 40mg of Latuda two weeks ago. Next week I'm supposed to go up to 80mg. I have found Latuda not to cause any physical problems- even not being sedated. For me, I have almost a 0% side effect profile. The only thing is that it gives me blurred vision. Now, when I tried Geodon....OMG. I couldn't sleep for 5 days, I felt like my jaw muscles were locked, and when I woke up in the morning I was bad sluggish and had bad body load. Same for me No akathisia at all, although I have gotten random twitches sometimes...not a problem. I do get sedated but since I take it at night, I'm thankful for that, since it means less Vistaril dependence. I'm hoping because it's a new med, it won't cause as much apathy or lactation...lol. I'm just tired during the day though, and still have pleasure in things. Glad to know it's working without side effects for you!
