LemonHead
I've been on 1200 mg of Lithium for about three weeks, and most I feel the same -- extreme agitation, depression, anger, general dysphoria. Does anyone get the bad taste in the mouth? I can hardly eat anything, I've lost 10 pounds. Tommorrow I talk to the pdoc. I am also on Paxil after some convincing, ,maybe that it causing the bad mood, although I've had it before. My wife and I are talkin about divorce and all that and that doesn't help my mood. Today I took 17 1 mg Klonopins ; the lady at the crisis line told me to go to the hospital to make sure everything was OK. That's how bad my agitation and depression is. I'm can't stand to be in my in own skin. Oh well-- just venting here. Thanks for listening.
San
Did you go to the hospital? That's a lot of klonopin. You've just upped your risk for a seizure over the next few days.
bpladybug
I am glad you see your doctor tomorrow. You really need him right now.
crtclms
Unless you are getting markedly worse, sometimes it takes a few more weeks for the lithium to kick in, so it might just not be working yet. I used to think it worked faster than that, because a lot of people on CBs seem to feel at least some relief within a few days, but I didn't feel anything until about the 6 week mark. And yes, please don't take that much Klonopin. If you find you make poor judgements about medication when you are very agitated, maybe you should have another family member hold them, and dole them out one at a time, or give you a maximum amount permitted each day. dedoubt
I agree with the others about it possibly taking a bit longer to work and also please do not take so much Klonopin. Yikes. I'm sorry you were feeling so desperately agitated. The best med trick I have ever learned it to take my lithium with a glass of milk. The bad taste went away and food started tasting better because of that and I wasn't nauseated all the time. My pharmacist told me about the milk, and I kind of think I owe him some flowers. It really was life changing. Also, how quickly did you titrate up on the lithium? When I was first put on it, I went from 0 to 1200 in less than a week, and never felt better. All of the same agitation, depression, misery from before with the side effects from the lithium added in. It was like getting hit with a Mack truck. At the time, I was so sick, I just stopped taking it after awhile (not a good idea). This time around, my pdoc started me out really slowly, and it took 6 months to get to 1200. When I went from 900 to 1200, I got really sick again, so we backed off. 900 works pretty well for me, and the SEs are mostly gone. Good luck-- SEs misery from lithium really suck. LemonHead
Thank you for the concern. I did go to the hospital following the Klonopin overdose and was released after deemed stable. My pdoc and I decided that lithium wasn't beneficial for me, so that is no longer an issue. (By the way, my lithium level was 1.2). Again, thank you for the feedback.
