crab76
Will this go away? I just started Prozac 10mg a couple weeks ago. I am emotionally numb, have no motivation, very distant, sluggish, no excitement, no desire to do anything. And I'm sleeping about 9-10 hours a night. Wake up very unrested and lay around all day in bed. My body is starting to hurt cuz I'm laying around so much. I'm normally very active and love to work out. My Pdoc says that these side effects of Apathy, No Motivation, Tiedness will eventually fade and I'll feel better. Is this possible? Has anyone ever had these feelings get better? I've read alot of things that ppl say they are just tired all the time on prozac. Help! Let me also add that I'm already on 225mg of Wellbutrin. I see alot of ppl add Wellbutrin to give them energy. Not helping in my case.

They never got better for me. SNRIs definitely did a better job in that regard. However, it may get better for you. Give it time and keep an eye on that shit. [Edit: Wanted to make sure I included the 'but it may get better for you.']

jt07
I take citalopram and I suffer tremendously from apathy. It is doubly bad for me since lack of motivation is a major component of my depression. With citalopram, I'm apathetic about being apathetic. I've been on and off citalopram for years, and it never went away for me. I have found that Abilify and Remeron added to the citalopram helps somewhat.
K_Likes_Redpolish
I am on Lexapro and too feel that I have a lot of apathy, compared to prior to my BPII diagnosis. For me, I just have to absolutely force myself to get out of bed and off of the couch. I've found that if I can just get up and going, I've got a good shot of having a productive day. crab76
Well I've been on prozac now a cpl weeks. I started at 5mg and just felt tired. The bumped it up to 10mg for about a week now. That's when the apathy started. My Dr swears it will get better. But from what I have read and now everyones replies I don't think it will. And I'm only on 10mg! The lowest dose. ugh!! I was on Abilify and didn't have this issue. I may have to go back to that. Everytime I take an SSRI it makes me soooooo tired. But this blunting of emotions is a new feeling. itsnotmyfault
Just started on Luvox and feel the same side effects almost immediately. Really suck and hope they go away or augment with another medication to counter act the effects. Really hard to deal with the side effects. Feel dull, foggy head, zombie like, numb, blah feeling, no energy at all. Just tolerating them since it helps with anxiety a lot. Not sure what to do. Felt same on all SSRI's and had to stop them before. So frustrating.
raincloud
That happened to me with Zoloft and it stayed that way the whole time I was on it. I haven't had that issue with other anti-depressants, though, and I've been on a few.
crtclms
Crab76, you are on a very low dose, it could be that when it is raised, you will feel better. Apathy is a problem with SSRIs, though. But I personally would try a couple of different dosages before I gave up. I have had to wait for a couple of dosage rises for meds to take affect in the past. The one SSRI that worked for me (Zoloft) I was at a very high dose (sorry, it was years ago, I can't remember what it was). It only sorta worked, but it did do something. I switched to Wellbutrin, which has worked really well for me, but even so, we have had to fiddle with the dose several times.
HAL9000
My gp said that a few (not many) needed to go off the SSRIs for periods of time because they dulled them out. *Apathy? She said not to do anything straight away because they take quite a while to start to have any effect (4 to 6 weeks) If your getting immediate results it might be a placibo affect. Your taking meds so you make your self feel better. I think a lot of us feel some kind of relief that we are doing something and at least hope it works. Which is better then doing nothing about it and being miserable.
notfred
Wellbutrin and Abilify seem to be to go to meds for treating apathy. At 225 mgs there is room to increase the dose.
Cherriichan
Since I started Prozac, apathy took over immediately. I can entirely relate to what you describe, I have moments where I 'wake up' and feel something and go back to being numb again, kind of in a cycle. I feel so brain dead and fuzzy headed all the time; and I understand what you mean when you mention feeling distant. I've found I can't fake emotions like I used to; Prozac numbed me off and I feel so isolated from other people, because there's something in my head stopping me from feeling things other people can. Baby
I feel this way too on lexapro, the extreme emotional rollercoaster from before is gone, but the apathy is definitely a problem. I also take 5 mg abilify but I feel extremely lazy all the time...It's especially affected me socially. I'm a lot quieter around friends and it's hard to feel either happy or sad.
