tryp
Honestly, I found that I was okay on benzos for a while, and then suddenly they began to make me extremely depressed as you describe. After that my tolerance got lower and lower and the depression came on faster and faster and now I can't touch them at all, because even at baby doses I get weepy and suicidal. But it's not like that for everyone - you might want to go back down to your last comfortable dose and see what happens.

crtclms
All benzos can contribute to depression.
chasetinsley
While all benzodiazepines can exasperate or cause depression, Serax (Oxazepam) is the least likely to do so. This is one of the many reasons benzo are usually prescribed with an antidepressant (among others, mainly being the idea that an SSRI or atypical will give you enough relief to not need a benzo). Serax was the only benzodiazepine ever FDA approved for "Anxiety associated with Depression." It doesn't mean it won't happen, trust me, but if you use them right, from my experience, it is a lot less likely to bring you down like the others!
