Hi. I have been on Pristiq for 9 days now and although I have yet to benefit from it (I am hoping with more time I do) I am having some side effects, of course. Wondering if any of you have these currently or have had them previously on Pristiq and really wondering if any of them are diminishing?

Some days the side effects make me so anxious and wired- palpitations, head buzzing like crazy, racing thoughts, nervous as can be and super sleepy (I had these issues prior to Pristiq but it is definitely making them much worse). Other days I am more calm. But it switches back and forth with no warning. It's so odd.

I also wonder if the Pristiq is helping or has helped OCD issues and anxiety?

Thanks!

I've been on Pristiq (Desvenlafaxine) 50mgs for about or 3 years and before that, I was on it's relative Effexor XR 75mgs (Venlafaxine) for about the same amount of time. I find it not so helpful with my anxiety, but it does help me with the depressive part of my bipolar.

I'm sorry, I have no experience with it for OCD issues. Maybe someone else will respond who does.

I have been on Pristiq for two and a half years. It worked really well at first (less so now) and I thought the side effects were quite gentle with the exception of insomnia. It took two weeks to feel some benefit and four to six to really feel much better. Over time, I found that aerobic exercise five days out of seven helped a lot with the insomnia. I was not successful with Ambien (had a sleep eating episode) and couldn't tolerate the metallic taste in my mouth from Lunesta. I did not try melatonin. I do take 1/2 to 1 mg of Xanax for anxiety. I would stay up all night worrying about everything if I didn't take it. I also do cognitive behavioral therapy once a week.

I've had depression and anxiety since my teen years and have used everything from prozac, through wellbutrin and mirtazipine. Some things worked, some things were a disaster but I keep looking. I tend to burn out on any particular drug after two or three years so I'm sure I'll be looking for the next new thing.

I was on Pristiq for a few months and I found that it was helpful in raising my mood, although it also paradoxically flattened me. It was one of the reasons why I went off the drug. I didn't experience any anxiety while on it.
