anyone know if there are any good rules for geodon's "must take with food" requirement? My psychiatrist specifically talked with me about it and the bottle warns about it...but I didn't have time to get into the specifics. Does this need to be an "I take it while eating" thing? Or can I take it say 15 minutes after or 15 minutes before a meal? Any good rule on how much food is required?

sorry, pesky questions about details...just want to make sure I get the drug I'm supposed to be getting.

i was told to take it with at least 500 calories. in the morning i usually take 60mg with a cup of coffee and and in the evening i will take my other 60mg with dinner, which is usually around 350 calories. it makes me anxious to eat 500 calories at one sitting. i know i am probably not getting as much of the medication as i should.

i have read some studies about the absorption of ziprasidone in the presence of food, i'll google around and try to post some.

When I was taking ziprasidone, I was taking it at night so I would take it with my dinner. I found that if I didn't take it with a meal, I would have horrible nightmares where I was paralysed while demonic voices and visions would assail me.

You can always ask for a higher dose and take it with a regular caloric limit, say double the dose and eat 250 calories every time.

I'm pretty sure that the absorption is not 50% food %50 meds absorbed, but you get my point.

Yeah, I'm leaning toward that. I like what it does for my brain. And I don't want vape's nightmares.

Wow, weird. My ex-pdoc had prescribed geodon for me and I took it for 2 months and not once did he mention to take it with food. the stuff made me hypomanic though, then it made me a walking zombie that could not wake up ever so I went off of it. Anyway, I didn't know you were supposed to eat with it... maybe he shoulda told me that. Another good reason I don't see him anymore I guess.

Were these nightmares or were they Sleep Paralysis episodes? Before I started taking meds for the brain, I used to get Sleep Paralysis episodes regularly. Boy were they scary...

I did a quick search on wiki [not authoritative but does offer a general explanation] and I'm not quite sure. Perhaps it was a sleep paralysis episode? I know I wasn't asleep for very long and there was an overwhelming sense of danger and fear. Whatever it was, I hated it. I never had the experiences until I went onto ziprasidone and I haven't had an episode since I stopped it last year, so I do believe that ziprasidone was the cause.
