Malachi
I'm told it's a "newer" antipsychotic. My doctor just added it to my haldol and zyprexa (hoping for it to eventually replace the latter) because I've still been having symptoms. Does anyone have any experience with it? My pdoc says it's relatively weight neutral, and it will help with the negative symptoms I've been having, which would be really nice...I'm just wondering what you guys might think about it. Thanks in advance!
bluqanary
I was on it for about a week, and it gave me akathesia, so I had to stop. But everyone experiences different drugs differently, and if there's a horrible side effect for a drug, it seems like I always get it. I say give it a try, you can always go off it if it doesn't work for you (under doctor's orders, of course).
Malachi
Thanks for the reply, Bluqanary. I'll give it a try and see what happens. Does anyone else have any experience with it? Just out of curiosity.
dorkasarusrex
I've been on 80 mg latuda for 3 months now and I have to say, for me, it's been amazing. Both positive and negative symptoms have been alleviated to the point of being able to function and I am optimistic for it. I've actually been losing weight as well, which is awesome! (I think that might be the zoloft, though). The only issues I have with it is that it knocks me out about an hour after I take it, but I sleep for 4 or 5 hours and then I am up, without the groggy hangover I was getting from my previous AAP's. Some people get insomnia pretty badly but I don't know about that. I would definitely try it, especially for the negative symptoms. Good luck!!!! Make sure you take it with food! Malachi
That's good to hear...I'll hope for similar results! I've noticed the sedation, but I'm taking it along with haldol and zyprexa, so it's unclear how much of my tiredness is from what. Again, thank you for the reply! koali777
I still get sedation from it, but not like before (only been on it 2 weeks, 40 mg). I agree with a poster above...it's amazing! It's everything Geodon was for me without the akathisia, constant sleeping, and flat affect. It's the first AAP I've tried that hasn't made me a zombie even in the first few weeks. My pdoc wants me to try to take it around dinner and I'm unsure because it makes me tired, but he says it'll wear off. Also, I'm a type 1 diabetic, but I've only seen an increase in my blood sugars just a little. No hunger. I love this med.
Malachi
Wow! That's definitely good news! I hope for similar results. Thanks! PS I just noticed another thread by the same name as this one from some time ago. I apologize for making another one, I honestly had not seen it when I posted this... koali777
No worries, it's easier to just make a new topic and so far I haven't seen anyone get upset over it, it's that posting the same topic from the same person over and over in the same forum or in several, has been frowned upon lol. So you're fine.
keyman19
I am on a very small dose of Latuda (half of a 40) because I am very sensitive to side-effects. The only side effect I am having is leg pain, especially because I jump rope to keep the weight off. I stretch properly but still have this. I just started congentin which is supposed to reduce these effects. Anybody have experience with this side effect? Thanks.

Thanks in advance! Malachi: I haven´t tried Latuda. I think the important thing to ask is not weight gain, but Latuda effects on blood sugar vs Zyprexa. High blood sugar can be very bad for health

My doctor told me you can do that, but the pills I have don't have the score line so wasn't sure or not. I also realize they sell 20mg tablets now. inmyhead
I've taken Latuda since it was first approved. Excellent drug. My schiz symptoms decreased significantly. Not gone, but muted. To be safe, I went 20mg and then 40mg to avoid any akathisia. I took Artane for a few days also to avoid any akathisia. And I haven't experienced it and there aren't any other negative side effects. I had a tendency to be hypoglycemic and now Latuda keeps my blood sugar at 100. Weight gain is neutral and a welcome relief after other weight gaining disasters. It is worth a try if your pdoc has suggested it.
eegirl2
I started Latuda about 2 wks ago after tapering off Abilify due to side effects. ( blurry vision, weight gain, anxiety) Now, no blurry vision, lost 10lbs. and no anxiety. Great except for one thing. I am flat. FLAT. Does anyone know if this goes away? I can't live like this and the thought of even one more week until I see my pdoc is unbearable. I have no energy, no motivation, no feeling. nothing. All I want to do is nothing. Be around no one. worse than depression or suicidal thoughts. those I understand. I could stand it if i knew this might go away. maybe this is common with AAP's? I don't know. Only my second. dreadOHdreads
Out of 5 years of trying to find the right medicine, I think I've found it. I've been taking Latuda for 3 months (I think) and it has done wonders for me. It clears my head of racing and paranoid thoughts for the most part. I'd say 80% improvement. But what it really helps are my negative symptoms. They have improved about 90%. It really helped my anehdonia (that was causing me to be suicidal) and it helped the others a bit too. I'm on 80mg and the only side effect I have is it made me lactate. So, it made my prolactin rose but for me that's tolerable. It also has been helping me loose weight from the Seroquel I used to take. I started Latuda about 2 wks ago after tapering off Abilify due to side effects. Seroquel made me feel that way. I became suicidal because of it. But other AAP's dont really have that effect on me. So don't give up on the AAP's. koali777
It seems like people have definitely experienced side effects over the entire spectrum. I'm very sorry to the person who feels flat I hated that with Risperdal and Geodon. But then again, I'm on 450 mg of Wellbutrin so that's a lot of help for depression. Something I've been noticing lately is that I have NO desire to eat. It's actually making me sick...I'm weak and dehydrated but I have no appetite at all. Wondering if it's my cocktail. Lost 4 pounds though.
eegirl2
If you are flat on an AAP , does that ever go away? Or can they add something else to fix that? I am only on Effexor and Latuda.
Zxrtpky7g
I was on latuda and it did nothing. Didn't help the paranoia and thoughts. But at least I didn't gain weight from it....

If the flatness is intolerable to you, tell your pdoc. They will generally switch you to a different AAP in such cases.
koali777
Could be wrong med for you or overmedicated even if it wasn't on purpose. I'm sure stimulants would help if the doctor felt it was best. Caffeine too (if that's healthy for you). Latuda doesn't make me flat but like I said, I'm on a ton of Wellbutrin.
Breebree93
They have me on 20mg, didn't tell me what it was supposed to do and sent me home with two sample packs (because getting me an actual bottle of it is near impossible) the only difference I've noticed is it makes mood swings more tolerable, they haven't quit but it's much easier to say "Hey mood, shuttup!" so...yeah. I don't give it a thumbs up or a thumbs down, I take it, but I'm kind of nuteral on the subject.
neingesicht
I've had really good luck with it. I'm going up slowly as I come off of Zyprexa. I'm almost halfway down from 5mg of Zyprexa! It took me 3 years to finally find a drug that would work and replace it. Like someone mentioned above it does kind of knock me out after taking it, but I don't know how long that lasts. Give it a go and see what happens! (Or not, it's up to you)
