So, i've been put on Clozapine. I'm on a dose of 150mg a day. This is the first time in my entire life where my psychosis hasn't been as severe as it used to be. Which is great.

My pdoc told me there are also a lot of side effects which can happen when using Clozapine. I'm on a pretty low dose, so the only side effect I get from it is low blood pressure.

I was just wondering, for those who are on the drug, or have been on the drug, what side effects did you experience?

I also have to attend a 'Clozapine clinic' weekly and have weekly blood tests to monitor a few things.

When I was on clozapine, I had a lowered white blood cell count. I got up to 50mg, before I had to discontinue. I went down to 1.5, when the norm is 2.0 - 7.0.

Ive been on clozapine for over 15 months now. For me, it has had few side effects. Fairly weight neutral compared to olanzapine. Easily the most effective/strongest atypical anti pyschotic that Ive tried. I was on 40mg olanzapine prior to going on clozapine. I seem to get a good balance between tolerability and therapeutic benefit @ 300mg/day for now on cloz.

I did the cloz clinic thing for around 6 months. Now I just have to go monthly.

I still have some problems, mainly panic attacks and some breakthrough intrusive thoughts & obsessions. For this I take diazepam & mirtazapine.

As for side effects; i get the droolling in my sleep. I can get kind of drowsy after I take my cloz too. I cant think of anything else right now.

How long did you stay on 40 mg olanzapine before you realized there was no way this would work for you? Cause thats a lot of zyprexa. Did you not even feel sedated? I just wonder if people who eventually go on clozaril didn't give the alternative drugs enough time.

Yeah I was pretty sedated on the olanzapine - in fact very sedated. But I needed that dose to stop the breakthrough symptoms I was getting. Ive also been on large doses of serqouel, abilify and geodon. I was on zyprexa for around 18 months, same for serqouel and abilify. Cloz was pretty much a last resort for me. And its been really good to me.
