Should I try Prozac next?

Recommended Posts

I have GAD, OCD, depression and I'm a recovering anorexic.

I've tried Zoloft, Celexa, Trazadone and Remeron. Zoloft and Celexa both made me terribly sick and even after some time, they didn't go away. Trazadone and Remeron made me sedated 24/7 to the point of not being able to function.

Someone had mentioned to me the possibility of trying an SSRI that is less activating because I may have less problems with side effects. I was thinking of trying Prozac - it would treat the GAD, OCD, depression and it's also approved for treatment of ED's. I know a couple of people who had success with it for their ED compulsions. My doctor is open to possible meds I'd like to try, so I'd like to come up with a possible regimen to bring up with her. I'm of course open to other suggestions.

My goal is to find something I can tolerate that will help prevent anxiety, as well as help with the OCD, depression, etc. I'd like to eventually only have to take the Xanax very rarely as needed.

This is my med regimen right now ...

BuSpar 30 mg (so far, doesn't seem to be doing much)

Xanax 0.25 mg PRN

Temazepam 15 mg PRN

I take Prozac 20mg and tolerate it very well. It doesn't make me sick or sedated or activated and it does help with my bipolar depression without causing mania. It's worth a shot....

I took Prozac for about five months, and had basically no side effects except for that when I first started it I couldn't sleep at all (I wen't straight from Remeron to Prozac overnight). In terms of side effects, for me, it was one of the better meds I took, but unfortunately it didn't do anything for my depression.

ETA: forgot to add that it also suppressed my appetite, which wasn't great for me.
