The one lurking behind you
It's been 8 weeks since I started taking Prozac and I'm starting to think it's making me worse. I have had some really annoying side effects from it such as nausea, headaches and mania(for a few hours almost every day). I'm feeling just as depressed, if not more so, since before I started Prozac. My pdoc is still on holiday so I told my crisis team, they spoke to a doc who said to just wait till my pdoc gets back in 2 weeks. I'd be totally fine about waiting 2 weeks if it wasn't for the feeling of deteriorating everyday, I'm not in control at all anymore, I'm just a host to the parasite which is depression. Any advice or personal Prozac stories would be great!
NottheMama
I was started on prozac about 6 months ago. I had to change my diet to vegetarian because I couldn't stand the nausea and found eating meat made it worse. I had the opposite effect energy wise, it made me sleepy as hell. Borderline narcoleptic. Until he upped my dosage to 60mg where I am now, it seems to be tapering off on the side effects. I found relief by trying to do minimal things, small tasks. Taking a shower, folding a load of laundry, eating a salad, taking a nap. Keep it simple. And good luck.
The Emperor
Yeah, I was on Prozac when I was admitted to the hospital for being suicidal. I don't know necessarily that it was the Prozac, but AD's totally fuck me up one way or the other. It could have just been that I was getting worse naturally, not because of the med. But I don't know, I still have my questions. I'm not saying any of this to freak you out. But shortly after they took the Prozac away, I started to feel better. We got me on a GOOD med combo that did not include an AD and I progressively got better. I will never take another AD again!
The one lurking behind you
Out of interest The Emporerer, what type of meds did you find helped with depression instead of AD's?
The Emperor
Specifically Lamictal and Abilify. 150mg of Lamictal and 10mg of Abilify was good for me. Everyone is different though. Some people get restless on both of those meds or have odd side effects. The only thing I noticed was weight gain, but it was worth it for the sanity. lavender fairy
I had a really bad reaction to Prozac. When I first started on it, I got really irritable. Then my doc increased my dose and I started feeling suicidal. I was taken off it, and will never take it again. There is some trial and error in prescribing psych meds. I feel a lot better on the combination I'm taking now.
GrayEyes777
I've been on Prozac for quite a few years (with a few years in between of being off them altogether). But I have to you that the first 2-3 months, I definitely felt a ton WORSE. I remember thinking it was ridiculous that I was taking this pill for depression and I felt worse ON the pill than I did off it. But gradually, and it is gradual, "moments" start to come in - and then those "moments" start lasting longer and longer. Until months later, I look back and am glad I pushed through with it. Both of my pdocs put me on Xanax and/or Klonopin for the first 3 months in order to deal with the onset of Prozac starting to work. As I gradually started to feel better, I gradually tapered off the anti-anxiety drug. You say it has been 8 weeks for you? I do remember the first 3 months being fairly tough.....but in my case, I was glad I stuck it out in the end. Feel free to PM me if you "need to talk" about it - it's the one drug I have alot of experience on!

Thanks Gray,I might take you up on that offer, if you dont mind listening to me panicking that Prozac is making it all worse, :L.
