ManWitPlan
I was wondering how often do antipsychotics cause tics. And how do they usually present themselves? Are tics just tardive dyskinesia? Also if this were to happen what could be done In situations where the person must say on the medication long term. Also can antipsychotics cause tics like the ones in this video. When should one worry they are developing them? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TT5wzHpKxlA
jt07
The video is about Tourette's Syndrome, not about tics caused by antipsychotics.
gizmo
I didn't watch your video (on my cell phone). But there are muscle movements caused by mental meds. (lithium is well known for causing the shakes). Then there are EPS, tics and movements from medications that can be reversed when the medication is stopped. Then there is TD, which is an often extreme and irreversable condition caused by years of medication use, usually the older APs. Only your pdoc can tell you what side effect cats gory you have, though I will say TD is pretty rare nowadays.
melissaw72
I agree the video resembled Tourette's more than tics caused by antipsycotics. IMO i dont think tics like the ones in the video can appear from being on antipsycotics; then again maybe there are exceptions. If you do develop them, they may be symptoms of an underlying disorder.
