ccamel84
I tried doing a search for this topic and didn't come up with anything on this site and I did a google search and saw that this is a side effect but can't do too much reading right now without feeling sick from the blurry vision so sorry for asking this question if the answer is already out there. But I was wondering if this is a side effect that will go away or not and if this means that maybe I am taking too much? My doctor just increased my tegretol to 800mg and this is my second or third day and suddenly a couple hours ago I got horrible blurry vision that is making me feel sick. Plus I have my two year sobriety anniversary at my AA home group tomorrow where I have to speak and there's no way I can do it if I feel like this. I'm wondering if tonight and tomorrow I should go back to only taking 200mg at night and 200mg in the morning. Any help would be much appreciated. jt07
Keep in mind that I'm not a doctor, but I have taken Tegretol for years. Blurry vision sounds like your blood level is getting too high. Did your doctor do a blood test to determine the correct level? I take 800 mg, but if I forget and take 1000 mg, I get the blurry vision and a feeling of being drunk. I can't tell you what to do with your meds, but if I were you, I'd call my pdoc whenever I could get a hold of him/her. If I couldn't on the weekend, I'd call first thing Monday morning. ccamel84
Thanks jt, my pdoc isn't really on the ball with things or all that good. I don't know why I keep delaying finding another pdoc, I guess cause I don't drive and trying to change schedules and line things up intimidates me sometimes. Knowing full well that I need to have blood work done before and during taking tegretol, I asked my pdoc just to see what he would say about it since he hadn't done any tests yet. He only mentioned the one you did, the one that checks your levels of tegretol. He said so long as I wasn't feeling dizzy that we didn't need to test it, but I guess this comes under that category. There's no getting in touch with my pdoc on the weekends, actually not even weekdays except for Mondays when he is in. I doubt I'll even get much help if I call on Monday but we'll see. crtclms
If I were just hanging around my house during the weekend, I would try to tough out the higher dose for a few days. However, if I had a speaking function where I had to be clear-headed, ESPECIALLY for a speech on sobriety, so that you don't want to look medicated, I would go back to the 200/200, and call your pdoc on Monday. But make sure you call. If he complains, I would just say I was afraid to drive (which if you aren't ,you should be). But call first thing Monday.
