Tapered off Klonopin, feel almost stoned?

Recommended Posts

I don't understand this, and it's really beginning to freak me out...I hope someone may be able to shed some light on what's going on with me.

I have been completely off of Klonopin for about a week and a half. Before that, I had taken about a month to taper myself down from my prescribed dosage of 1-2 mgs daily. This was actually even slower than my doctor was telling me I could get off of it. I did get some withdrawal side effects (nervousness, shaking, etc.) that has, for the most part gone away (except for the shaking now and again). But the weird thing is, I have pretty much felt like I've been stoned for the entire week and a half. I hope I'm allowed to say that. Anyway, I feel "outside of my head" and have a very strange sedated thinking/feeling that doesn't go away, even when I am feeling nervous. I know that sounds weird, but it's impossible to describe other than to say that it feels almost exactly like being on Indica strains of cannibus.

...except it won't go away. Why might this be happening? Has anyone else ever experienced it? It seems like the exact opposite should be happening.

dude ofcourse everyone in crazyboards will want me to say i aint a doctor....and i aint....but my opinion right now is tht what you are experiencing right now is called depersinolization or derealization and is quite common on anxiety issues.....there is actually I really cool and helpful website I frequent called dpselfhelp.com that has all kinds of info on how to get better and other people with the same symptom like you that you can talk to and can help you..but like always talk to your doc cause even if it is dp well thats no fun at all to go through TRUST ME lol

Adding a third opinion...

If you're having "rebound" anxiety from benzo taper, its possible you're more anxious than you realize.

Our minds try to be kind to us... If we get too anxious for too long, sometimes we start to get spacy instead... this gets called "depersonalisation" or "derealisation" (or if you go for US spellings, us 'z')

I was actually wondering if that's what it was. I've never experienced it for this long before, only short periods of time. I will visit that website recommended by momo77, and talk to my p-doc on wednesday. I really, really hope it starts to go away :( Thank you!

Going off Klonopin gave me the shakes because pdoc started weaning too fast. That was my only side effect of weaning off of it.

Pdoc now has me on .5 in AM and .5 in PM on a steady base, and .5 PRN. I hate this med though because it stays in your system too long when you go off of it (when I did go off of it for awhile).
